I think I know, what happened... I had 3 devices activated on ADE.. When I got my Sony I activated it on ADE... Then I downloaded Sony reader software, and they also wanted me to activate the reader.. I did that, and then next time I went to ADE they asked for activation, so I did it again... and there you go.... too many activations... I was so desperate to be able to read epub, that I had bought several readers, before buying the Sony... but now Amazon seems to have all the titles I was desperate for available... No more any need for my Sony.. ![]() |

I don't think this is a universally-applicable warning. I got tired of ADE's required re-download every time they update the software, and have switched pretty much exclusively to Sony. I use the same e-mail address for both my Adobe ID and my Sony account, and use the Sony software for purchases, public library downloads, everything. No problems (Mac and Windows).

I have had to download the books individually to a specific Kindle but you would have to do that with any device. K1, 2 DXG's, and 1 DX and no redownloading. |

My understanding is that now you get the license back when you remove the book from a device.
I know originally you had to call Amazon when you reached the limit and let them know which devices had been sold or were no longer in use so that the licenses on those books could be released. I know someone who called in with a few hundred books and spent an hour or so on the phone with CS. I am guessing that after a few phone calls like that the policy changed. And the license limit is based on the Publisher. Most seem to have it set at 6 but there are some who set it higher and a few that set it lower. |

![]() Each entry in the Archive is just a stub file (not the actual ebook) that re-downloads the book for you when you click on it. So yes, if you get a new Kindle, you're going to have to go into your archive and "re-download everything" (if you want all of your past purchases on your new device). Semantics, I know. ![]() |

"When your kindle 1 dies, you'll be stick with losing all you book, or getting an other kindle... Too bad if you fell like changing." What the OP of that post was saying was that if you had books on a K1 and you got rid of the K1 you would not be able to read those books on a K3. This is not correct. Kindle accounts are set up so that multiple e-readers can be used on them and everyone on that account has access to those books. You do not lose access when you change devices. |

I spoke to Amazon CS about this and they said all I'd have to do is deregister devices to recover licenses. I have five devices registered and have deregistered two others, and I haven't run into licensing issues yet.
