There are internal backups that give me nightly backups of the data on local drives in the same computer and on other computers in the house (which are doing the same routines). And I have differential software running to record changes that can be rolled back on the data drive. And Carbonite gives me peace of mind.

AND I'VE HAD TO USE THEM ALL. A virus once got through that required going back 23 days to find a nice clean unadulturated C:\ image.

Way back in the dawn of the computer age, I probably wrote the single most brilliant short story ever. Pulitzer Prize winning material without a doubt. And I hit a button that was supposed to save everything. It was right beside the little one that meant delete on my Apple ][. I was never ever able to recover that single copy of the story that I deleted. And I was never able to recreate it. (So you can't prove it WASN'T the most brilliant short story ever [G]). But I did learn data is a very precious thing that needs protecting ... and backing up to the limits of your ability.

I never had the experience of losing the Great American Novel (haven't gotten around to writting it yet) but I'm so with you on your back up routine. Most people do not realize how essential frequent, versioned, multiple backups that include at least one off site is.

Can I add my voice to asking for a better server/client system? I love Calibre - but if it could work as a real server it would be fantastic!

Hello all,

I would like to ad my voice to the list of people who want a true client/server type set-up. Each user in my library has their own column which allows them to designate how soon to read a book, which they'd need to be able to edit to another setting (such as "past", "soon", "later", etc).

If I've missed a more modern thread, please tell me and I'll go over there and add my "me too!"

Thanks for ALL you do to make Calibre as cool as it already is. If it wasn't so awesome already, I would be looking elsewhere to solve this particular problem.

Anne.

It's being worked on right now - watch out for Version 3. I daresay Kovid will call for beta testers when its ready.

That is wonderful news. I'm not here often. Is there a forum such things get announced in? I'd gladly subscribe/volunteer.

Thanks,

Anne.
