I have a kindle and want to put another on it. So, based on the above I register the new one in my grand daugher's name with her own account. Then I transfer it out of her account over to my account.

I'm a little confused by this. What does the initial step of registering it in the recipient's own account achieve, if you're immediately going to re-register it to your account? Isn't the end result the same as if you'd simply registered it to your account to begin with?

You can only be registered on one account at a time.

This is not true. You can have as many Kindles or Kindle apps registered as you want. The 5 or 6 Kindle limit is for an individual book. A book can be limited to a number of simultaneous devices, often 5 or 6. Once you delete the book from one device, that license is freed up.

Can I share content with other Kindles?

You can enjoy your Kindle content on Kindle devices or Kindle applications that are registered to your Amazon.com account. There may be limits on the number of devices (usually six) that can simultaneously use a single book. Subscriptions to newspapers or periodicals cannot be shared on multiple devices.
