I would go with a Kindle DXG or a Sony 950. My Mom is 69 and loves her DXG. Heck, I am 39 and I love my DXG. I got my Mom her DXG because I know that she would be using a larger font and that she would enjoy having a larger reading space.

Explain to her that she doesn't need to deal with the K3 keyboard at all -- pretend it isn't there.

isn't Kobo the reader connected to Borders? I would hesitate getting involved with a reader that is in a very shaky financial status and may have an unsupported platform here shortly

It is connected to Chapters in Canada. I know that Borders has only 10%-20% ownership.

The kindle is useable staight out of the box, no set up beyond plugging it in to charge. It is very intuitive in fuction and impossible to mess up. The letter keys can be completely ignored. I tried the Nook in a store and I couldn't figure out how to change the font size. The kindle is easier to use.

I bought a Kobo early last year, but didn't like it at all, and since Borders seems so unsteady I would also stay away from it.

Yup. The keyboard is for notes and browsing the store and web.

Kobo is selling books in 130 countries, and the US,while an important market, does not actually "need" a presence at Borders stores to succeed there. It is sold through Walmart, and as it is now at Best Buy in Canada, I would not be surprised to see it sold at Best Buy in the US. It can also be purchased on-line, of course. Kobo's main ebook format is ePUB, so anywhere you can buy or obtain an ePUB format ebook the Kobo will allow you to read it.

As for the 600, I wouldn't recommend it. She's older and her eye sight might not be the greatest, so the clearer the screen the better. Of all the readers I've had, the 650 sits at the top. |

Thanks for the responses, but after dropping a few hints, she vehemently refuses. It was worth a shot, now I have to come up with something else.
