Does this Software work only for pictures? Because when I read your description I got the idea that I could scan books and your software could convert it automatically to the ePUB format (that would be so awesome... I have some old books that I would like to share on the Internet).

Hello Emindead,
Yes, you can use it for that purpose. You have to scan your book, either one page at a time, or two pages at once. Then you copy all your jpeg files in the "images" directory and launch the program. You answer the questions, and voilà ! Your pictures will be auto cut, cropped, resampled... to make the best ebook (LRF or EPUB) possible. Just try it and tell me how you find it ! Regards, PS. I can't seem to make it work. I scanned a page of a book. Run the program. Answered the questions and the program gets stuck with the same "Screen Size" lines ad-infinitum. What's going on?

That's very strenge. I don't have this problem.
You have to answer this question with either 1 or 2. Could you post me a screen capture of the problem? Thanks |

hi
Idle question : is the source code available? I've done this similiar thing with 'sam2p' instead of ImageMagicks 'convert' from jpg to pdf .. and found very much reduced file size Jim |

Hi ab7vf,
No, the source code is not yet released. I'll think about it ;-) I have no much time to improve it, so a release one day under GPL may be a good idea. What would you like the source code for? The pictures are converted to PNG, hence the file size a bit bigger than JPG. PNG files are better for readibility as there is no artefacts around letters. Pictures are 16 greyscales. We can split filesize nearly in half using 8 greyscale. |

I think that this sw makes jpgs in 16 grey colour. Epubs made with calibre are more rich. Is possible use a 256 grey conversion? I like of this sw the crop funcion. Is it made by imagemagik? What is the command line to make a strong cropping? thanks.

Hi Sage79,
Cropping is done by my own program. ImageMagick is only used to resize and decrease color depth, and yes, I convert to 16 greyscale. I'll release the source code as some people requested, so you will be able to continue increasing functionalities, as I have no more time to work on this. |
