http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com/.../701888/page/4 Apparently there have been several others with this battery concern (I guess me too, now) Apparently SquareTrade's warranty would cover the battery.....but calling them on it would be wise.... In one of the last posts there is a link to pictures of the teardown of the NC in a sequential order, to get to the battery, certainly looks like it's replaceable, but a bit of work to get the job done (I could do it, hopefully I don't have to anytime soon) http://www.zdnet.com/photos/nookcolo...get-photo-roto Disclaimer: Performing the steps detailed in the teardown, may void the warranty ![]() Interesting to see the NookColor taken apart.... [EDIT] The battery had better last at the very least 5y and in fairly good shape simply because the cynics @ B&N decided against user-replaceable battery... All of my other rechargeable batteries electronics have last 5+y... OTOH the battery is NOT soldered in place and as long as the same or similar replacement could be found the hardest part would be disassembling it enough to replace the battery and getting it back together again cleanly... my gTab is the same way, the battery is not soldered, but it's easier to take apart(4 or 5 screws, releasing a couple of tabs...) [/EDIT] [EDIT2] The one time payout is fine by me, as I'm just getting this for insurance. While I haven't broken many devices(took 10y for me to crack my IIIx's screen...) these are just expensive enough and large enough that I have a bad feeling of accidental drops and breaking the display... worth $40-65 to me to be able to replace it... (Kind of funny how more recent Asus warranties cover nb automatically with 1y of accidental damage out of the 2y total... well they do if you don't buy from some crappy place like Worst Buy who don't get the mfg warranty... you do from newegg, tigerdriect, etc. though...)
