Ivy, you can find the free Sony books by selecting "Categories" and then "Bargain Books." The free ones are listed at the top of the page. A few of them are incomplete samples or short stories, but most of them are full size books. They change the selection every month, and then most of the books go back on sale for the regular price.

I've been reading books my whole life. I started listening to audio books too and that held me quite strongly for a while. The idea of reading on a screen never appealed to me and I never thought about getting an ereader.

Then I moved to Spain as an exchange student. After 3 months in Spain I have collected more than a dozen books and A LOT of printed .pdfs. When I realized I'll have to take them home somehow (read: pay to have them shipped), it came to me how much easier my life could have been with an ereader... and I decided I wanted one.

Basically, the only one I had heard about was the Kindle... therefore I wanted a Kindle. I was really into getting one, I was reading reviews and looking at pictures and covers online. Then I told one of my friend's friends that and she was against the Kindle - she suggested something else (Sony or Cybook Orizon or something). At this point I actually realized I have a choice.

So, I spent my Christmas holidays researching and I chose to get the Sony Touch Edition in red. Then in I jumped into trying to find it for as little as I can and I realized I would be lucky if I found it. Period. Well, I got lucky and a few days ago my boyfriend's mother picked up the last one they had in their city, if Sony website is to be trusted. The last one in store at any case.

Now I wait. My boyfriend will come to visit me in Spain in 2 weeks and he will bring the ereader with him, and until he comes... I wait. And it's driving me crazy!!! I am sick at the moment, laying in bed and thinking how awesome it could be if I had my reader now.

There's nothing left for me to do. No reviews to research, advices to seek, decisions to be made. I just have to sit and wait and urgh!

I just wanted to vent.

Tell me I'll adore it, please.
Of course you'll adore it! I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you guys so much for all the replies!

I am feeing better today, Latinandgreek, no more fever, so yay for that!
I also downloaded the Sony software, got the bargain books (free, another yay!) and a gazillion other books from the websites you pointed me to! They are all bookmarked in my browser now and I plan to check them frequently...

... how frequently should I do it? Sony changes the free deals monthly, Avwriter? Is that every 1st in the month? I that case, I have some time before getting new batch of free books.

I'm down to 12 days to go, even though I will have to just flirt with the reader slightly while my boyfriend is here. When he leaves, my new Sony reader and I can begin our full romance

Sony's schedule for releasing new freebies is an inexact science. Usually, somewhere around the beginning of the month, they put up several new free books at once, but the exact date is inconsistent. However, I have also seen them trickle in a few more, one by one in between. If find it is worth checking back every couple of weeks or so. As new books are added, the older ones move to the end of the list, and eventually go back to their regular price. On the other hand, their schedule for releasing new books for sale seems to always occurs on Tuesdays.

I have a Tuf-Luv for my mp3 player, and it's really well-padded; I could drop it out the window and
it'd probably be okay. Moreover, I like the idea of having a built-in stand.

If you get the Tuff-Luv case let us know what you think of it. I was trying to choose last night, and it was a choice between that and the one I eventually went for which is just a leather envelope sleeve:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...ef=oss_product

I finally plumped for the latter as I've always been happy keeping my readers just in a sleeve before and I like the light weight of the reader without a cover, however, I suspect that when the sleeve arrives it might be too thin to afford enough protection, and I might eventually get the Tuff-Luv as well.

By the way, I've been using my black 650 for a week now and it's great - you're going to love it. Not only the best reader I've used yet, but unexpectedly the smallest (I was astonished to find that this 6" reader is marginally smaller than my 5" Elonex).

To be honest with you?
I would avoid both like a hell.

Have a close look at them. Foret about comfortable use of buttons on the reader. The bottom rim is very close to the buttons and high above them. I had this problem with 505 and Tuff-luv. Hated it. Very uncomfortable. My old 505 back to the original cover.

Reconsider the original Sony cover.

While I agree that the cover does come rather close up to the buttons, with a touch screen this is less of
a concern than with the 505.

Despite Astra's comments (he does seem to confuse opinion and fact), I have a very similar Tuff-Luv cover for my 650 and really like it. I also liked the same type of cover for my 505. In my opinion, they're fine covers.

All over the Internet is a well known fact, that on forums, unless stated otherwise, we post our own opinions. So, instead of idiocy of adding IMHO or IMO to every post we create, we just post and hope that intelligent people understand it.

Well. There are fewer buttons but that makes them even more important. Home is probably the least important. However, options is used a lot. Many people turn pages with buttons when they hold the reader in left hand.
We are all different of course, but I thought it would be wise to warn Ivy about unforeseen pitfalls and share experience

When posting particularly vitriolic views (like yours) it is good etiquette to make it clear that that is your opinion. It might also have been better to make it very clear that you have no experience of a Tuff-Luv cover for a Sony 650 (you know, the one the OP was asking about) at all.

Thanks for explaining about the internet. Not at all patronising

You might want to look up 'snobbery', you clearly have no idea of its meaning.
