Don't take my word for it DixieGal, it's Amazon that made this program, not me. I'm just trying to help spread it.

You can read more about it here:

Amazon Lending Books FAQ

And nimblem, I am just as excited about this program as you are. If not far more so, as is possibly evidenced by the fact that I haven't slept since Wednesday and now it's 8 AM on Friday because of this

Lol Intenex. Perhaps you can only lend the book out once Harry. I will have to read more about it.

No, it's not one person at a time; it's a one-time loan EVER per book. It's exactly the same as the lending available on the B&N nook.

Well that's kind of sad. =( I guess it would hurt ebook sales if one simply loan books out forever.

It's completely understandable. Amazon don't want people setting up "lending libraries".

Alright, I just read up on this, and to me that's ridiculously disappointing. I can understand why they would have such a restriction naturally, but they're practicing very deceptive marketing strategies from my standpoint. The normal user would never read closely enough to even see that line on the Amazon guide, and they don't bother to ever mention it again on that page, clearly for a reason.

That puts a dampener on the site I just spent double digits of hours working on. It's definitely still a workable model, only now there needs to be an implement for 1:1 ratio sharing. Users can only borrow as many books as they've lent out, every book you borrow gives you -1 karma and every book you lend gives you +1 karma. Still effectively doubles the amount of books you can read paying the same price as before. It's a buy-one-get-one-free deal now, as opposed to a buy-a-few-get-the-rest-free deal.

Shame. Too tired to fix the system now, I'll work with it in the morning.

I'm sorry that we busted your bubble, and that you missed sleep. It will all work out somehow.

How can it be a deceptive marketing strategy? It's been common knowledge long before they put the feature into effect that it was going to be a one-time-ever-per-book scenario. It would be silly to assume that Amazon would allow you to lend the same ebook ad-infinitum (even if it were only one user at a time). They are in the business of selling books, after all.

You're just mad that you forgot to look before you leapt.

It was clearly stated to be a one-time only loan in the original announcement:

Quote:
Second, later this year, we will be introducing lending for Kindle, a new feature that lets you loan your Kindle books to other Kindle device or Kindle app users. Each book can be lent once for a loan period of 14-days and the lender cannot read the book during the loan period. Additionally, not all e-books will be lendable - this is solely up to the publisher or rights holder, who determines which titles are enabled for lending.
(emphasis mine).
