It's astonishing to me. Well, okay, it's not that astonishing, but it's still annoying. TiVo does the same thing. The damn box is Linux, but they won't release a TiVo Desktop for Linux. At least with the TiVo, though, there are open source alternatives. I assume the reason there aren't alternatives for K4PC is because of the file format and DRM issues (although TiVo recordings are also DRM'd...). |

Mine just says "no internet connection".
I close the program, reconnect LAN, open K4PC and it goes right back to syncing. Never asked me for login or re-register or anything like that. |

Well, thanks for all the suggestions. It is being run on a stand alone PC running XP and has only one user, me. I have disabled ZoneAlarm to no avail. I have removed K4PC from the PC and reinstalled a new D/L of it and still no luck. I have just installed it on my laptop to see if it would work there; it does not, same problem. I called Amazon Kindle Support and the tech kept me on the line for a while as he did some checking with others and claims that no one can give him a clue as to why this is so. He sent the problem up to a higher level and said he would call me back next week after he got a responce. We shall see!

Here's a new twist on the problem. I have four computers available so I tried it on the other untried machines. It worked on both but still doesn't work on the two previous tried. So I attempted to find the difference between the working and nonworking. When the "Check for Problems" option on the "Help" menu is selected the two computers that work show no problems. However the two that don't work show a problem with the "Secure Storage" item. The only "Help" available that I can find pertains to the problem occurring on a Mac. Anyone know what this error means on a PC and how to fix it?

I use the Kindle app. on 1 PC and 2 laptops, an Archos 5 android device, plus of course the Kindle itself and have no problems with any of them. The 2 laptops and the Archos 5 are used with the wireless turned off most of the time to save battery life and have never asked to connect to the internet when using the Kindle program.

No, all machines are conventional PC's with standard HD's. The program is installed on Drive C: But thanks for the input.

I have exactly the same problem one year later. (version 1.8.1)
Did you find a solution since that time ? I tried : - Deleting the appdata/local/amazon folder - Uninstalling all "kindle" keys in regedit - Downloading and installing a fresh Kindle app file Each time I have the same problem, when I restart the app I can't read the books I paid for. I have to reenter my credentials, and on the amazon side it adds me "a Registered Kindle Reading App" for each time I enter them. Finally all is Ok when I check problem into the app, very smart checks indeed... |
