No way am I excluding a generic (or per user) TempTMP dir from A/V scanning. I have no problem with a 'reserved for Calibre only' folder

Me neither. That's why I asked for this feature in the first place.

You can only do it safely if you know the only app writing to that folder is a trusted app, but there are other uses to it.

Placing your calibre temp files on a SSD drive, or on a RAM drive - now, that would kick performance a couple of notchs up.
