Although the OP's link was to 2009, the same thing happened this year also:

http://www.slashgear.com/bn-nook-ser...gain-27121257/

Probably an overload from all the activations, but the B&N Forums were also down, (maybe from irate Nook Color owners wanting to use their device?).

Good for you; keep reading her excellent novels despite technological setbacks. Her husband is still looking for her to make the next level jump into literary superstardom so he can become a kept man.

I work with him--Hi, Steve.

Then he'll be pleased - so far I've bought two "Highland" novels, and a 3-book ebundle from B&N. I've read the first and started the second. I'm quickly becoming addicted to her writing style so I'm sure I'll buy more when I'm done with those.

Regarding Hannah Howell, maybe you already know this, but she also re-publishes her print backlist via e-Reads, and they're all available in DRM-free MultiFormat at Fictionwise, whose 60% off holiday coupon is still working as of right now.

So if you think you might want to stock up, you could get the lot for $3.60 each, although you wouldn't have the syncing convenience of B&N's versions, of course.

Ooh yay! Thanks for that heads up. I'm so used to using Fictionwise for SF and Horror (been using them for years) I never think of them for anything else. I use Calibre and related tools to manage my books so I don't have a syncing advantage anyway. I'm headed over there right now.

B&N isn't in the best of financial health. That's reason enough.

It doesn't bode well that people were logging in and trying to purchase books from their site? I would say that bodes very well.

Maybe now that they have an increase in customers and sales, they will work on their site and increase server support.

I bought an audiobook from Audible and had to wait until Sunday to download it. It felt like the whole Internet was creaky that day.

I picked up a freebie at B&N Sunday afternoon, and it went to my bookshelf but I was unable to download it until this morning. I didn't really think too much about it though, because I was having problems with other sites, too - namely Borders, and 2 different library websites (both supplied by Overdrive). I just assumed it was a combination of the weather problems on the East Coast and high traffic due to all the new ereaders out there!

Overdrive has been giving me major problems all weekend and today, and the library I use has pretty much crashed and hasn't been back up in over 24 hours.

I'm sure this is not all a coincidence. eReaders were a very popular gift item this holiday season.

Yeah, I received notification yesterday that one of my hold request books is available, and I haven't been able to check it out yet, even though I've been trying off and on all day. Fortunately, the library it's at gives you 5 days to check the book out, so I'm not concerned about losing it (yet) - I'll just keep checking.

The library getting heavy use makes me happy. But I'm sorry you're having issues.

FYI - The servers are in New York. I can't remember where exactly, but they're all there. We've had outages in the past thanks to lightning and other weather issues.

Overall, I'd say a slow down in our system, if it was because of so many nooks, is a GOOD thing. That means we did well. It WAS frustrating Sunday with so many slow computers, but considering my store had no database, phones, or wifi for 3 days a week ago, we'll take this. :P
