My cover (with single AAA battery installed) weighs 156 grams. The reader weighs 206 grams, so reader plus cover weighs 362 grams.

Approximately 2/3 of the right-hand side of the front appears to be covered with a synthetic leather-like material. The remainder of the front, the spine and all of the back are covered with a single piece of synthetic non-slip matt material that facilitates holding the reader when the cover when closed, and resting the reader on something, so it doesn't slide off, when reading with the cover open. The entire inside surface of the cover appears to be covered with the same non-slip material.

Both the front and rear halves of the cover seem to contain weak magnets, so the back half remains attached to the rear of the metal body of the reader, unless they are prised apart and the front cover remains closed when you want it to be.

The light contains 3-LEDs and there is a 2-position slide switch that enables you to control the intensity of the light. When you find that toggling the switch between the two positions no longer changes the intensity of the light, it's time to change the battery.
That's an excellent description. I got the Sony unlighted cover for my 950 while I'm waiting on something I like better, since it was on sale. It looks nice, the hinge and the magnets are great, but I find I hate the matte material that makes up the back and part of the front. It feels almost like very, very fine sand paper to me. (But I'm sometimes over sensitive to textures, so take that as you will. [Edit to mention: The boyfriend says I am definitely being over sensitive to the texture of the cover. I still think it's uncomfortable. ]) I also doubt it would give much protection in a drop, but at least it'll keep the screen safe. Mine came with a very strong chemical smell, but it has almost completely dissipated four days later.

So the case is basically just to protect the reader I guess. I asked because was wondering if it served other functions aswell.

I am thinking about just getting some kind of sleeve, just to use when the reader is in my bag, and then remove it when reading. Something like THIS.

@ander111: That cover looks very nice. Please tell us what it is like when you receive it.

OK, after a week with the Sony zipper cover, I hate it. It works to protect the device, it is small and light, but a PITA.

I have dropped the reader three times. Mainly due to the cover not being zipped.

But it also doesn't work to prop up the reader while eating and reading.

I hope that Case Logic gets smart and comes out with a PRS-650 version. Or I will steal my case back from my wife (she got my -600).

I have the 650 and the Sony lighted cover for it. I would really recommend the lighted version. The light is so convenient, works well and the design of it is great. It might be better if the cover also had a tab to hold the front and back cover together.

Hello, all.

Another new owner here. I am looking for a case and I found this: http://www.i-nique.com/detail.asp/cn...=5055205287218

After you ignore the pink (which doesn't bother me one bit, being a girl and all) it seems pretty nice - slots for extra cards and I can let it stand alone if I wanna read and eat/take notes while I study/etc.

Anyone tried it out? Any experiences?

Merry Christmas and enjoy!
just wanted to make sure I understand what you've written. You're saying that Calibre can do the management of what books I put on my Sony? So I can toss the Sont Reader Library software and purchase books with DRM through Caibre?

I'm already just dropping books into the mounted 'Reader' volume. These are non-drm'd epub and pdfs.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

You can't purchase books through Calibre, but you can manage those books.

I purchase ebooks via Kobo and then use Adobe Editions to download them. Once downloaded, I bring them into Calibre for management.

It sounds like a lot of steps, but it's quick. If you were working with a large number of purchases at one time, it may be a little cumbersome, but for one or two purchases on any given day you'll be done in 2-3 minutes.

Also, I'm not sure where you're located, but I'd research places to purchase othen than Sony. I'm finding their ebooks to be more expensive than other options.

Like the previous poster said, Calibre is great for managing books. You can tag your books and it will create collections formyou automatically if you like. It will send the books to your reader. You can also create a catalogue of your books that will show a description of the books if you have that. It doesn't link to the book directly but can be a way to browse books you want to read. It will also download rss feeds for newspapers etc that you can schedule. When you plug in your reader it will load them on to the reader. It really is a nice program.
