Same purchase similar problems

I got the same model from the same shop and returned it today as I could not get it to authenticate with Digital Editions as per the instructions. Poor online support unlike other items purchased so decided not to persevere.

I have a few questions, i am sorry if the have already been answered before but i could not find the answers. .
1) Calibre installed and i have downloaded 3 books to a folder on my desktop and they are showing in the main library section. Using the wizzard i cannot see iriver as a selection, what should i select?
2) is it better to put books on to a SD card rather than the internal memory?
3) suggestions for protecting the unit

Many thanks
Chris

And!

Having now read the whole thread I am amazed at the effort being put in to try and get things working on your IRiver Story. In contrast to my IRiver experience I got a Skycaddie Golf GPS which on Christmas Day(!) as a result of similar 'synchronisation problems' a human (called Vince) from their online support fixed the problem for me remotely - albeit I then paid the annual subscription charge but that whas what I had to do in any event so no extra charge. What a difference in reduced time wasted and stress levels. Customer service indeed. Perhaps these Ereader companies should offer a similar service given the apparent number of bugs arising from reading these fora! Maybe I should just ask my wife to wait until next year until all this settles down.

There's actually a fix for this on the ADE site. Apparently a number of different non-mainstream readers can have a problem authenticating, but it's only the first connection that's the problem.

Don't ask me what the fix is - I've forgotten. But then I don't need it any more. It's a key combination to press, something like Ctrl-E, when the two machines are connected.
