My husband is super picky with reading, if he's not into something right away, he just goes on to something else.. The only series he will read over and over are The Wheel of Time and Harry Potter. Although they are not really exactly similar in genre as WoT is more epic fantasy, they still seem to draw a lot of the same people.
Percy Jackson is great, but I found it a bit too young for me. It is a great series though. I plan on reading it to my son in a year or two. I second The Hunger Games and would add The Maze Runner. They are both more dystopian type series, but they are amazing. Eragon is pretty good as well. Not nearly as epic as WoT, but has a lot of the main HP themes. |

You might take a look at the James Potter books - they are fan fiction about Harry's son, James, and have gotten very good reviews from the people that have read them.
There are three; I have them, but they are still in my TBR pile. You can get them at elderscrossing.com (free, of course) |

The Pawn of Prophecy is the first book if I remember rightly, and is very easy to read. |

It is a leap but try Mists of Avalon. It is a retelling of the Aurthrian Myths from the female perspective. It is a great fantasy read.
Yes it is different from Harry Potter in many ways but the characters are well developed and the magic in it is well explained. A bit denser but an excellent read. If you looka t Orson Scott Card Iw ould suggest Enders Game and then the Shadow series. I enjoyed Speaker for the Dead but the rest of the books got further away from the story of the kids in Ender's Game. The Shadow Series follows many of the other kids and introduces others quite nicely. Robin Hobb's Assassins Apprentice series is great. As is the Twany Man and Trader Ships series. |

I just finished Ender's Game today and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Though it isn't my Harry Potter, it was still very hard to put down. I finished within 24 hours of starting the book With regards to fanfiction for Harry Potter, one of my favourites is Magic Never Dies. |

2. I will definitely try Mists of Avalon. I have been looking to expand on my legends and mythology readings, and this suits my tastes. |

I am glad you liked Ender's Game. It is a great book. If you enjoyed it you will probably also enjoy the Shadow books. Good stuff there. |

![]() The same person who told me to read Philip Pullman also recommended Stephen Hunt's Court of the Air. It is hard to describe - a mix of Victorian fantasy steampunk. Lately I have been reading Michael Scott's Nicholas Flamel series about twins Josh & Sophie who discover that they are not ordinary teenagers and must learn to develop their magical powers to fulfill an ancient prophecy (what else, of course!?). I will have to check out some of the other titles recommended in this thread. Several of them sound interesting. |

I would go with the Wheel of Time series, but only if you have a lot of time on your hands since each book is about 750 to 1000 pages and there are 13 books (plus a prequel) with the final book coming out in a year or so.
Another option is the Inheritance Cycle (Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, and a yet to be released final book). Also, you could try checking out these links for more books: http://home.austarnet.com.au/petersy...sts_books.html http://home.austarnet.com.au/petersy...oks_rank1.html |

You could try the Redwall series - (disclaimer: I haven't read it in many years & there's a lot more books than when I had read them; I mean to get back into them, my siblings still love all the new ones). Basically it's fantasy where all the characters are forest creatures like mice, badgers, etc. |

I do agree these last books are faster paced and conclusions are actually happening, but all this stuff would have happened as Sanderson is going by Jordan's notes. Jordan even wrote chunks of the book (which is now three) himself before he died. |
