That is what I was going to suggest after reading your first post. Since you are in it for the 3G and need it to be a Kindle, the K3 is much better one.

Most people have the opposite problem, myself included. I hope you find the K3 easier on your eyes. I know how miserable eye strain is. I have been suffering with it for a few years now. Makes me appreciate my sight much more than I used to.

Depends on the lighting. I too once saw a Chinese eReader where I work that looked fantastic (I usually read at night, so lights are dim), it looked so white. But later on when I asked to see it side by side with my Kindle 3, they looked identical. It was simply the lighting, even my Kindle 3 looked better in that room with white fluorescent light tubes hanging above.

Most of the people who try out my Kobo say it is much easier to read than a backlit screen, perhaps different eye problems are better with E-ink. Do you use enough light when you read? E-ink works better in the type of lighting that suits P-books, it's really good in bright sunlight and living in a place where we get lots of sunlight this is a real plus.

I guess the map says it all! Australia really is sunny!

Brighter light helps a lot. I need to have my chairside reading lamp on when I read on the Kindle.

Thanks. I'm definitely going to try other fonts. Also, I'll try rigging up a black frame around the screen to see if that helps contrast perception. If so, I'll go crazy with a sharpee.

I just had another thought. Is it possible to invert the display. So instead of having black text on a white background, to have white text on a black background?

If I could ask, where did you get that map? Thanks in advance. I guess that explains Australia's high skin cancer rate, too. And ipad would be even more of a problem down there outside.

There is a copy and article here: http://www.theage.com.au/articles/20...036983561.html but the map originally came from NASA. We are about to spend some money getting solar panels put on our roof which is why I have been doing some research on this. I have very fair skin and just buy industrial size packs of SPF 30+ sunscreen! .
Why South Australia doesn't just put in hectares of solar panels further north in the desert amazes me! I am sure we could supply most of the daytime power needs of Adelaide this way, like when all those air-conditioners get turned on when the temperature soars.

Turns out solar panels are not the best solution for large scan installations like that. A good old fashion boiler surrounded by a lot of mirrors pointed at it is a better way to go. There are a few of them in the California desert.
