Hey,

thanks for all the input so far. I have decided to go with the Bebook Neo. It's quite expensive (it will cost me close to 300€, since I also bought the protective cover sheet), but when compared to the other readers that were available in m country and ran for about 180€ I think it justifies it's higher price with it's Wacom technology, the built-in wi-fi, wider format support and expandable architecture.

Thanks you! I'm still waiting for the company to reply and confirm my order though -- seems like they have a lot on their hands or they aren't too serious

Okay, there have been some changes and the order on the Bebook was cancelled and also my budget has expanded somewhat, so I am able to look at the 9 inch pocketbooks as well. Now as far as I can see, they are available in Europe. I have been checking out a little around the forums on the 903, but there is not a lot of info available, since it is not 'properly' out there yet (a certain store has the delivery time of two weeks listed), except that there are some things left to be the desired in the software section (which are supposed to be fixed in the near future).

Is it worth getting the 903 over the 902 (with the former having a WACOM-like touchscreen which adds to the practicality and the 3g for which I don't so much care for right now)? Or even more basic - is it worth getting the Pocketbook, or are there some other alternatives (besides Kindle and iPad which I am not considering) that are in the same price range?

There are some Sipix devices that are now selling with 9 inch screens, from Asus and Pixelar. I think that the screen contrast isn't supposed to be as good as e-ink, but they might be priced a bit cheaper.

I think that the Asus as well as the Pixelar both have lower resolution than the pocketbook, and yes, I heard that the contrast is not upt ot par to the e-ink, and I'm presuming that contrast is pretty important to the reading experience? I'm buying the e-reader because I really do a lot of reading and want to take as much of a burden of my eyes as possible.

Of the current large screen (9" +) non-backlit e-readers, the Kindle DX seems to have the best screen, while the Pocketbook 902 / 903 seem to have better functionality for reading PDFs, but slightly less contrast. I haven't seen either in person, I'm just commenting based on reviews that I've read. Hope that helps. (I, too, am looking to get a device for PDFs and am still undecided as what to get).

I think that pocketbooks also support more formats than the kindle (for example djvu)

I am reading a lot of PDFs on my SONY PRS-505. It actually works quite OK. But then again - they are not really PDFs - I use several programs like PDFLRFWIN, Acrobat X etc to convert and fine tune them.
I am able to convert all PDFs into quality ebooks for my device. That said, however, I would like a bigger screen. Because, you ARE only able to see a small part of a PDF page at a time if it has to be readable.
But I am, especially thanks to PDFLRFWIN, which is a brilliant little program that unfortunately was discontinued due to some GPL violation, able to read both articles and technical books.

Generally, I would say that you have to convert or process your PDFs in some way to read them on a 6" screen...

I also read PDFs on my 505. Quite a few, actually. I really would like a larger screen, however, for home use. I use Briss to fine tune my PDFs, you might want to check that program out, too. It's free and I've had good results with it. It's also easy to use.
