I have done some investigation on the Kindle Case lockup problem.
No solution yet, but I think we can rule out the metal tabs.

And after weeks of continually putting the kindle into and out of the cover my money is that your kindle will show signs of cracking, because the covers are meant to stay on, not be continually taken on and off.

This is just way too much hassle! Please forgive me, but it's bordering on ridiculous... NO BRAINER indeed

All i did was take a small piece of scotch tape and stuck it to the under side of the lower prong/hook on the cover. Then i reconnected the cover and THAT'S IT! NO MORE RESETS

I don't know how important that is but I tried to make sure that there are no lose tape corners sticking out from under the prong/hook.

Yes. After thousands of people report the exact same problem with the unlighted case while inserted into the tabs, which immediately disappears when removed, followed by emails from Amazon customer service stating "Do not put the Kindle back into the leather case," I think an investigation using the case that Amazon used as the replacement due to it not causing the problem certainly rules out th- WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOUR BRAIN SIR.

Just goofin with ya. I enjoyed the video. You have a charismatic screen presence and seem like a good fellow.

I'm not sure what you think will 'crack.' If you are sloppy trying to hit the slots in the plastic case, you might force a crack, I suppose, but it certainly wouldn't be a functional crack. My perception is that the covers are for traveling protection, not for everyday use and handling. In fact, trying to use the K3 with the cover on eliminates (for me) the ability to hold it in one hand and turn pages while holding a cup of coffee in the other hand.

I think that if I wanted to use the K3 with the cover always on, I would be turning it off to blank screen between uses. Waking it back up takes the same 2 seconds as from 'sleep' mode. The question is, then, do you have reset problems while using it in the cover? I don't use mine that way, so I don't know. I find the cover awkward and it doubles the weight of the K3 while obstructing the page turn keys.

The tab video was interesting but puzzling, because it is not consistent with what I'm experiencing with my WiFi/unlighted combination (and I have two of them). Obviously it isn't a simple problem since Amazon seems to be having so much trouble determining the cause and is replacing unlighted covers with lighted covers....

At this point you'd think Amazon would fly a team to someone who has the problem - to review both that case and that kindle and figure out if it is one or the other or a combination of both. Maybe they have or are doing that.

I think the problem is widespread enough that Amazon (or whoever makes the K3 for them) is having no trouble finding a representative K3/cover to test. Perhaps the real question for them is how to fix the problem at the most effective cost, rather than just how to fix it.

I see the misunderstanding. That cover is indeed designed and intended for everyday use and handling, hence the mechanism to keep the Kindle attached while in use. It provides functionality and basic protection similar to a book cover. For your needs you may be better off returning the cover and replacing it with a sleeve.

You can of course use it any way you please. However, that isn't what it's for, and you can understand why people see a solution that involves removing it from the cover as the equivalent of "don't use the cover."

I guess it depends on whether you like hardcovers or paperbacks. Do what you like, and like what you do.

The purpose of the Amazon cover is to make the experience somewhat like reading a book. This version doesnt have a light, the other version does. The cover isnt fit for purpose if it messes with the kindle in use.
If you dont want to read the kindle in the Amazon style cover, then a slip case makes much more sense to me than continually opening and closing the hinges. Were you around when the kindles were being cracked at the hinges, and were replaced by amazon? Just my two cents.
