I am using my iPad for a little time now for reading PDFs and it is a way better than Kindle for this task. The big difference is bookmarks and notes navigation. Well I do not read from top to end most of my PDFs, these are reference guides which needs to be easily opened in several locations at once.
Have a wonderful time with both of your new toys!

The Kindle 3 is definitely my eReader of choice, but I would love to have an iPad or, even better, a MacBook Air for my mobile computing needs (more like wants, then needs. ) I have no money for such a device at this time, but I'm hoping to start saving for it. The new version of the iPad is supposed to be out sometime in the spring of 2011, too....

If you move a bit to the 'dark side' you can remove the DRM from the Amazon DRM'd books and then move them. As with so many others here, I usually remove the DRM for the sole purpose of storing them in a more 'universal' format for the future. Who knows how long DRM will be readable?
Seconded. I sometimes read books from my Kindle on my computer, and it works great.

If I needed a PDF e-reader I would look at the Sony 950 or the Pocketbooks.

For just reading a book I will take the Kindle hands down. It's mainly the eInk display. The LCD displays tend to burn my eyes after a few minutes of reading. As for PDF's, nothing I have found does them better than a PC. I have the iPad too and have even paid for a premium PDF app. Even it has quirks and some documents don't even load correctly. If you just have to have a PDF doc on your Kindle do as I do, I use Calibre and convert them to Kindle format. Even then all PDF's do not convert properly. There is not ONE perfect do-all device. That's why I have so many different "toys".

Yeah, frankly speaking I would like to get one device for all my needs. Imagine if there is a kindle & ipad merged together you only choose which display you prefer for today - eink or led, swap it like an ordinary case.

I like my ipad, don't regret buying such expensive device. The flexibility what you can do with it is amazing - if you loaded some document that is not displayed correctly all you need to do is a simple search on the web to fing which app supports it and of course I am very impressed how cheap all those usefull apps are, all I found usefull was free or 0,75€
