Glad you are up-to-date VKVK!
Folks without an extra computer can often get the same result by uninstalling the desktop application, rebooting, and installing a fresh copy of the desktop. |

I upgraded 2 Kobos yesterday. The process was successful but I'm not happy with the outcome. Both use my Kobo account. On one I now have messed up content. It looks fine but I keep finding sections that I've already read. It will take me ages to finish books at this rate. On my mother's I did a Sync after the upgrade and 6 new books did get added - but some that were added previously but not yet opened are now Locked and doing Update Library did not fix it. I'm frustrated. Help appreciated. Kathy, Ottawa, Canada

After a Db replacement (and often before) another sync often works if the issue is with kepub books. Sign out of Kobo desktop. Sign in again--new downloads will be generated.

Duplicated sections fixed

I was able finally to replace the SQLite database - some problems in the process documented in another thread. At one point I ended up with 104 books rather than the 135 that I should have and I couldn't get access to the Sync button ... I used the original cable then - rather than just any old usb cable with the right pins... It brought up a prompt to update the desktop - then I could sync and seem to have what I need. I do have to go through things as everything is 'new' but I'll deal with that. |

I'm in the process of installing the 1.8.2 upgrade, and now my Kobo has hung. It looked like the upgrade ran ok, but the screen on my Kobo just says "Updating the software on your eReader" and the blue light is blinking slowly. It's been doing this for about an hour. How long should this step take? Should I just do a factory reset and start again?

I did the firmware update and now my PC will not see the kobo as a device at all. I've tried different usb ports, manually uninstall and reinstall the Device Driver.
It gives me the option "manage library" on the kobo but after that nothing happens on the win7 64bit side ...does not see it or the Kobo as it sits in the Connected Screen and hangs with the pinky light near the on button :/ HELP! I got the driver reisnatll but Windows just doesn't see it.. Has the firmware upgrade screwed up and if so how can I reinstall the formware now? Last edited by mordie71; 12-28-2010 at 05:03 AM. You can force another firmware update from within the desktop application by pressing Control+U+ Shift at the same time. Have you, btw, rebooted your computer since trying the update? If not, do so.

Now this is interesting - If I plug it into another USB while in the fireware upgrade mode "Menu+button+power" on the kobo it goes an install the device driver run. However, after the restart the kobo does not get picked up by windows at all :/ Once I do the clip reset and go to "Manage Library" the kobo hangs (or looks hanged) it stays the same if I unplug it then - Bascially have to do a clip reset to get it up again. The Control+U+shift it's not working ... I assume the Kobo sees the PC connected at the point it asks to "manage Libray" or "keep Reading". So I still think for some odd reason Windows and the driver are not waiting to see the Kobo or commuicate with it from the other end of the usb cable ... I'm not even getting a usb portable device attached icon in the area near the time (even in the ^ area) - I use to get that and it would than talk to Calibre after that ... I'm thinking win7 64bit and the driver don't like each other :þ Last edited by mordie71; 12-28-2010 at 06:17 AM. Reason: a few mistakes in spelling :P |

My computer is a 64bit Windows 7 machine--no problems. Did you try a factory reset of the Kobo? It is in the advanced tab of settings.

1, are you disconnecting the usb cord every time, or just ejecting the kobo from the tray?
2, are you running a usb hub or connected directly to the machine? Most times windows turns off the usb port on eject and you must unplug the usb cord and plug it in to reactivate the port. Try unplugging the usb cord, rebooting the machine and then plugging the cord in again and then attach the kobo. EDinNB |

Is it worth trying to find the driver that was working (old one) and istalling it? hard part will be tracking it down! |
