I have a problem downoading stuff that is copyrighted, after all, my wife is an author. If you own a copy of a book in one format or another, i see nothing wrong with converting it to an ebook yourself or converting to another format. The copyright for printed materials is honest and fair IMHO, but I do have a problem with the way audio and software is though. It seems that you don't "own" any software. You are just using it with the gracious permission of these Giant Software companies.
A book that you purchased, completely turn you off? Stop reading it and return it and buy another.

The software you paid a bundle for, not living up to it's expectations and printed hype? Tough! Try to get a refund!

(Including the shortest SF story yet: two sentences. It's a suspense story. )
Can you reprint the two sentence short story here? Or would you get busted for copyright infringement?

Here's a link to the full story right here, and also here's the full story. It's called "Knock":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knock_%28short_story%29

Since it's on Wikipedia, I'm listing the story here. (If it's still under copyright, then I'll remove remove it when I wake up tomorrow morning, unless I die in my sleep of course.)

The last man on Earth sat alone in a room. There was a knock on the door...

Thanks, I like it. Supposedly one of the shortest stories is this one by Hemingway:

For sale: baby shoes, never worn.

Well it's certainly the saddest six-sentence story ever!

I had to google to find the exact wording of that story, and I found this which I think you sci-fi guys will enjoy:

http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/14.11/sixwords.html

I love this one:

Machine. Unexpectedly, I’d invented a time
- Alan Moore

Maybe not. Maybe they were a gift and mom didn't like the shoes. Maybe the shoes didn't fit. Maybe the shoes are pink and baby is a he (or vice-versa). Maybe the gift is from the wicked mother-in-law. There are many other chances.

Indeed. If only Hemingway were alive to write the sequel.

That is one of my favorite episodes from Dimension X. You can find it here (5th one down): http://www.archive.org/details/OTRR_Dimension_X_Singles

I think that those two sentences are probably the best opening lines of a Science Fiction story ever.
