Some of these keyboards make me cringe at the thought of them..

The only one I ever used was the C64 keyboard however.

I'm surprised they didn't include the Dvorak Keyboard.

I've used a Logitech corded wave keyboard with a Logitech marble mouse for years and years--I bought a second "set" into work to use there as well. I have extras and I am glad I do as the corded version of the keyboard has been discontinued. The only downside is that it is a very big keyboard and needs an oversize keyboard tray. There is a wireless version--the 350.

What's bugging me recently, though, is that we've picked up a contract with a large foreign based business that gave us one of their laptops so we could get into their network. Now I learned to touch type back when Ford was president; I can hit every key, including numbers and punctuation, quite reliably.

On a US layout.

This loaner laptop has a British keyboard layout.

My brain hurts to use it.
Forgive the obvious question, but, assuming you have the necessary access rights, why not switch the keyboard driver to US English?

I do the opposite when I have to use machines with US keyboards.

Yes, the high one.
Now I am very tempted to dig one of our C64's out during Christmas and play games on it!

Your qualification about the access rights is exactly the stumbling block. Heavy crypto on the laptop to enable network access essentially forced them to lock it down with severe access restrictions.

whoa! don't knock it until you've tried it! they make you a MUCH better typist and truly are a wonder on wrists that don't want to be so cramped!

The very best keyboards EVER were the ones that came with the old (circa 1982) IBM ATs. That being said, my philosophy is and has been to put your money on the human-machine interface. That usually means the keyboard, mouse, monitor(s), and speakers.

That doesn’t necessarily mean fancy, it just means they have to work flawlessly and feel/look/sound … well … expensive!

My current Micrsoft wirless keyboard sucks!
