I'm in the same situation with many journal articles. Having a second chance and using this thing as a stand-alone pdf reader would be very nice for me. I don't have any other major problems with my Kindle.

Can I read the books I have bought off Amazon with Doukon? And can Doukon mess up my Kindle in any way?

1. Yes, although I prefer original Kindle for reading them (I like the fonts better)
2. Up until now I haven't seen any problems, although I have it only for a couple of days.

I just installed Doukan but sadly I can't even see the books I have bought off Amazon on it. I only see the free Non-DRM ones. I think I still prefer the Original Kindle Software.

Um..where exactly IS this because this could save me quite a bit of storage space rather than have duplicate pdf's.

is it under the Other that lists "support old system" ?

@mdovell: In the current Doukan, it comes as "Show Kindle List".

Duokan and DXG

I tried Duokan for it's supposedly great pdf rendering but found that files such as "The Call of Cthulu" graphic novel with multiple grey shades, which renders fine in the Kindle pdf viewer, looks almost completely black in Duokan. I tried adjusting the grey scale settings in Duokan but could see no discernible difference. Maybe in a future release....

Otherwise pdfs in Duokan were fine, but I didn't find any huge improvements over the DXG's handling of pdfs. Duokan allows use of TOC in pdfs that have one, and epub and chm support are nice to have so I'll keep Duokan.

I think the large screen on the DXG makes a lot of the Kindle pdf problems go away. Most pages are readable just fine without any zoom and simply rotating the device sideways provides adequate magnification to read small text in diagrams without resorting to selecting zoom from menus.

I think Duokan PDF support isn't that better than Amazon's.
But Duokan can handle epub, chm and other formats.

Doukan handles Journal articles, especially the two column ones much better than Kindle. For any other kinds of PDF's, it is not much better than Kindle software.

Oops. I missed one of the menus- the gray scale is adjustable so the file I mentioned is easy to read using Duokan.

Duokan's handling of 2 column pdfs is great!

I downgraded from 31/12 to 25/12 release. For some reason they added a progress bar to pdf documents and I can't find a shortcut to go into a full screen mode. Anyone?

If PDF documents are not too complex, you may also try converting them to Kindle format by sending the files to yourkindle@free.kindle.com It looks like it does a decent job, better than Calibre, even with two-colum documents.

try opening a 30-40M pdf in kindle and on duokan...then tell me there's no difference. my kindle-dxg takes up to 5 seconds to page turn on large files like that while duokan takes no more than a second.

the zoom support and greyscale adjustment are also much better, just a pity it doesn't support standard ebooks better and i'd be happy switching over completely.
