Double click it on pc and it opens in IE explorer. By the way, it's just the list of words, no dictionary explanation.

I have no desire to keep a log (list) of words I look up in the dictionary. Why would you want that feature?

I can't imagine wanting that list either, to be honest.

Well...for language learning purpose, maybe? I like to keep a log of new words and useful expression when I come across them. An occasional review helps me commit them to my memory. No doubt you guys have a much more efficient way of learning a second language.

My main problem while reading pdf - when in zoom in mode, page up & down buttons don't function. One cannot go to start of next page after reaching end of the page. Zoom lock would neither allow to pan around the page nor will help to go to start of next page. It can only go to end of next page. After zoom lock, click next page and go to end of next page, unlock the zoom, scroll up to the top of the page and continue reading. Unbelievable dumb feature.

The purpose of Zoom lock is for retaining zoom level through page turning.
Before X50 series, every time you turned a page, you'd have to reset the zoom level. Now, with Zoom Lock, each time before you turn the page, you set Zoom Lock, and turn page, and your zoom level is retained. Then you can unlock to pan around the page. Not the most clever implementation, but it functions. Better would be to allow continuous panning through pages, then no need to zoom lock, but still provide a function to hide the zoom functions from blocking the page. Do we have to do everything for Sony? They need a new design team. |

Anyone who uses a dictionary whether he is English or not must need that list to remember his new words better.

jessie102 + others:
I am almost 69 years old. My eyes tear constantly. I have some astigmatism and must wear glasses to do most anything. Still, as my self description indicates, I own both a Sony 350 and 650 (planning to trade the 350 for a 950). I also own an iPod 4G -- I now do most of my reading on the iPod. Apple's new "Retina" screen is so sharp that its size does not seem to matter. All I have to do is fit a pair of reading glasses, which I'd have to wear anyhow and fire up the iPod. It is 'clearly' superior to my Sonys in clarity, sharpness and versatility. I can read any format from any source on the iPod. --- It is the superior reading device, excluding battery charge intervals which is no problem for most of us. If Apple were to present us with a 7" version of the iPod Touch ------. The Sonys are better only in direct sunlight and, being a book person, I rarely see that ;o) If Y'all are truly open to change, you might go check-out the iPod Touch; it is a remarkable device. Joe Minton BTW: I am no Apple fan. But, they have 'done it right' both from the standpoint of hardware and their inclusiveness regarding ebook formats. |

I never have that problem with e-ink. The letters might not be as smooth nor the contrast as great as the high-res, back-lit lcd on my iPhone4. But the thing is resolution and contrast have never been an issue for me. I just needed a device that took up less space than a fat book; something I could easily read on the train, out at lunch (or just around the house) and something that wasn't the equivalent of shining a flickering light into my eyes (what any LCD essentially is). To me e-ink just replicates the experience of reading from paper better than a transmissive screen ever could. I don't think there is a single device out there yet that one could say is objectively the superior reader... The future will probably be a high-resolution, colour, video capable, "transflective" display. But until then what the superior reading device is will be a subjective term that depends on individuals' eyesight and other needs. |

I'm glad the iPod is working for you, Joe.
LCD screens will never be comfortable for me. They give me migraines, and I find the iPod far too small for reading. I have vision problems that can't be corrected, so my only solution is to make the font huge. |
