Yep, the left side of the screen is noticeably darker than the right. WTH AMAZON? Ugh.
One of the reasons why I buy from a physical store, like Best Buy or Target. You always have the options to go back and exchange in case of hardware issues.

Amazon will ensure that you will get a replacement but it can be a new or a refurbished one.

If you are not satisfied or believe is still broken or not working (not cosmetic problems, that's different) send it back. Hey! you paid for it ...

So I spent 45 minutes on the phone trying to get it replaced because the rep spent forever trying to get my credit card to authorize.

If I get another one with bad contrast, I'll just keep my original and bear with the rattling.

I wouldn't keep the old one in any situation because that rattling isn't normal at all. If it is a metallic object like a screw then you may find it one day settling into a position which can damage the Kindle circuitry.

If you feel adventurous, you may wish to remove the back cover and see if you can get rid of the rattle.

Note: your warranty may be affected by this.
