Possibly you thought I meant perform the search-and-replace within BD.
I meant replace "donkey" with "democrat" in the source .htm file, and reload into BD. I've verified this still fails in the 3/14/07 update. Thanks Harry -- the update does fix the ampersand problem, as you pointed out. |

Another example is "The Aristocrat" (chapter 2 of Scaramouche by Sabatini).
So my original guess that the bug was triggered by "demo" was wrong; it looks like "ocr" is the problem. That suggest anything to you, Valerii? |

Here's a link to the htm file that exhibits the error.
http://www.babblebooks.com/BDbug/scaramouche.htm the problem is the line: <P><h3>II. ²The Aristocrat</h3> (Ignore ² and anything else that looks odd, these are flags for later post-processing and don't affect the TOC issue.) http://www.babblebooks.com/BDbug/toc1.jpg 1st screenshot shows how chapter II appears in TOC if Aristocrat is changed to "Arist°crat" http://www.babblebooks.com/BDbug/toc2.jpg 2nd screenshot shows how chapter II drops out when changed back to "Aristocrat"; also shows Configuration/Settings window Don't think that "Make Sony" can have any impact -- because the error manifests on load, before the target book type is selected. |

Anais9000, I have some bad news for you.. it works. Here's the screen show to show it works. I am using the 05/30/2007 update if that helps.

Hi Jon,
Thanks for letting me know that there are some situations in which this bug does not manifest. That's true of all bugs. Unless you think I'm photoshopping the jpg files, it's clear that in some situations the sequence "ocr" will cause a string to be excluded from the candidate-set of chapter titles. It makes no difference to me that this occurs, since I preprocess the occurences of "ocr" and post-process them within BD. I'm simply trying to help vvv reproduce the bug for the benefit of other BD users. |

I've been having a bit of trouble with the dipthong 'oe'. With some texts, BD has no problem at all. But with others, it either omits the oe, or replaces it with an emdash.
So, if the text mentions shoes, woes, foetuses or phoenixes. or if anyone does anything, I end up using the find and replace tool to reinstate the oe. |

Thanks, Jon; this will save a lot of effort, and it is very generous of you to share it.

Your welcome! I'm happy to help. If you tak a look at the two files as you select them in the Book Cleaner, you should see how they work and be able to do your own fix if you need. But if you need, please post what fix you needed to make so the rest of us can do it as well. Thanks!

Some more lines I'd recommend adding:
In the "Before" file: Change "Mr." to "Mruni(182)" Change "Mrs." to Mrsuni(182)" Change "Dr." to "Druni(182)" Change "St." to "Stuni(182) all of these "case sensitive". Then, in the "After" file: Change "uni(182)" to "." These lines prevent BD from interpreting "Mr.", etc, as the end of a sentence, and breaking the line there. |

Also, fixing for St. does not work well. There are words that end in st so if you have rest. you get reSt. I have Dr. converted to DDDDD and then DDDDD back to Dr. I tried putting in a space in front of St. and it was removed. |

By the way, Book Designer has a bug. The older html0 files you've made with the 04/12/2007 version have to be opened with that version and resaved without compression and then you'll be able to open them in the 05/30/2007 version. I was going to convert Dracula and it came up funny. I had to resave it uncompressed in order for the new version to read it properly.
So you'll have to downgrade, open and resave all your HTML0 files made in the older version and then upgrade again and you'll be fine. Turns out the compression in the new version isn't compatible with the old version. |
