This has been my experience in the last week. I don't have a Kindle, but when I registered my Kindle4PC I gave my aunt's address in the US. I wasn't in the US when I registered. Someone from Amazon (it appeared to be an actual person, not an autobot) advised me that I'd tried to download from outside the US and could I provide ID to demonstrate that I was in fact a US resident. Unfortunately I deleted the email so I can't c&p it here.

Yup I have heard about that. Normally all you have to do is send in a copy of your passport and they clear any holds.
If her son buys the Kindle and has it registered to an account at his address and sends it to her in Mexico she should be fine. |

The Barnes and Noble store now has ebooks in Spanish, if your mom likes to read in Spanish she might enjoy the Nook.
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/Libr...ish/379001126/ Just thought I'd mention that, seeing as your mom works in Mexico. I don't know if these books are geo-restricted, however. |

I would agree with the Kindle choice but then I am a Kindle user and a tad biased

If your mom needs a bigger screen then go for the KDXG instead of the K3.

That is why I got my Mom a KDXG
Make sure you get her the graphite one, it is the one with the Pearl Screen. |

I would call customer service and ask what happened. If you have a US passport you should be able to get US books.

Yes, I should do that. I do live in Canada though, and I don't know if I want to lie in person. I do go to the US monthly so I guess I could say I still live there part time. I assume they started going by ip address instead of your shipping/billing address. But what if you are on holiday? Does it now restrict which books you can buy?

I don't think you have to lie. I think as an American Citizen you should have access to the US store. I could be wrong.

OK, As an American she should be able to set her account for the US store. I am assuming that she is visiting folks who live in the US when she comes to the US. She could choose one of those addresses as her address for her Amazon Account. |

Yup, she is an American and has all the proofs of it. She just happens to live in Mexico and work as a Professor at a university down there.
My brother's in Colorado, so I'll have the ereader sent to him so he can check it out and figure out the workings of it, so when my Mom travels to the US next spring, he can show her how to work it. Thank you all for your help! |
