Well I just tried fresh battery's in my stuck JBL, and plugged it into the USB cord, got a error that windows does not recognize this device or it has a problem which blinked away before I could really see and study it. Meantime I'm going to leave it plugged in and see if it can manage to reset itself.

For now its still stuck on the first jetbook logo. Will call today and return it if this doesn't work. I've already tried everything else.

FYI I really appreciate this community and all the helpful people out there. I guess that is why I've been slow to return this unit. I felt that someone would probably figure out a fix.

Salute to you all!

A reset then reflashing the NOR memory and returning to the default values then another
reset, should put it in a condition that will work with your PC.

Since you have a regular Jetbook, and therefor its plug-in charger as well, you might try
that as an alternate power source and to see if jogging the power circuit may help.

Luck;
Ken

One time, I turned my computer OFF, hooked up the JBL and rebooted. The BIOS recognized the device (before Windoze loaded), then after Windoze began to load, it saw a problem with the JBL and automatically ran chkdisk on it before continuing to load Windoze. All fixed.

Well I had to get mine replaced 2 times for this freeze on boot problem. Absolutely NOTHING else ANYONE suggested worked. They swore the 15d firmware fixed the problem but apparently not. I haven't used mine much since. I just started using my ebookwise again. Its older but at least it doesn't turn into a paperweight every few months. I think mine is out of warranty now. If it does it again I will never buy another ectaco product.

Yep. They do freeze up. Sometimes you can recover them and sometimes not, but it is worth a try.

Ectaco should make the warranty unlimited for this particular problem and work on rooting it out and fixing it once and for all. I have a late model Nissan Altima with the CVT transmission, and some customers expressed concern about the cost of repair if the transmission failed. Nissan's response was to notify current owners that they were doubling their transmission warranty from 60K to 120K. There's a lesson for Ectaco on how to conduct business.
