Here's my 2 cents for how I keep track of what I'm reading.
I took advantage of the fact that special characters in names show up at the top of the list when you sort by title. So I leave my Kindle in "By Title" mode and this is what I have on my home screen: _My Book Catalog _My Unread Books !Currently Reading !Unread (Fantasy) (Fiction) (Mystery) (Paranormal) [Game] [Non Fiction] [Want more in series] etc. The two at the top are the catalogs that Calibre creates. I love keeping those handy because I have almost 300 books on my Kindle and can never remember the book descriptions. Since '!' is less than '(' when sorted, the !Currently Reading category shows up before (Fantasy) etc. I used '[' for the categories that I read less often and therefore it's OK if they show up on page 2 Whenever I download a new book I immediately put it in the !Unread category and whatever other category it fits in. And as soon as I decide to read a book, I immediately put it in the !Currently Reading category. When I finish a book, I remove it from the !Currently Reading and !Unread categories. This technique works quite well for me although I'm still not thrilled with how the Kindle organizes. For one thing, I'd really like to have an obvious marker for books I've already read instead of staring at those little dots which I have trouble seeing. And I'd love to have an easy way to see which books I haven't read. I do it manually through the above method as well as using Calibre but it really should be a feature of the Kindle. Another little pet peeve of mine - if I'm currently reading a book and want to change what category it's in, I can't get there from the menu! I have to close the book, go back to the book list and then right-click. That's just plain silly. |
