![]() Personally, I'm wary of these get-fit-in-60-days kind of things. I'm climbing for about six years now without noticing anything dramatic as to muscle definition (though, to be honest, I'm not looking for definition), and anybody who has done some climbing would agree that it's a pretty good all-around exercise. I think, though, that to achieve that kind of results in such a short time, the whole package needs to be there, and that includes nutrition, which seems to be constantly overlooked. |

The workout is not for beginners who do not take those things into consideration. I was already fit before I started the program. It is pretty high intensity. For beginners the length (9 weeks) isnt really all that short of time to lose 15 lbs when changing one's diet and starting up a really hard exercise program.
I look at these 5 things as equally important: 1. exercise 2. fluids 3. nutrition 4. supplements 5. sleep |

I love cycling. Mostly road riding these days. Did about 14 races last year. I did a 24 hour team mountain bike race this past weekend with my wife and 2 other people. It was great.

What is it?
I hate sport. Never, ever watch it on TV. Absolutely ignorant about football, rugby, and others. Never follow competitions. Easy for me. I don't give a fig about it. Certain things I am forced to do whether I want it or not. I don't have a car and I have to walk every day to and fro work. Very fast walking - 21 min, fast walking 23 min. Unless it is freezing like right now, I always have a hand grip in my hand. It helps to assign some sense of a purpose to boring walking. About 3 months ago another activity has been added to the list. My better 2/3s has started to go to gym, 3-4 times a week after work. It means I have to go to meet her when she is done. 15 min fast walking. About 1 mile to gym. One day, in the first 2-3 weeks I left house a bit too late (typical me). I didn't want her to wait for me. So I ran. Since then 3-4 times a week I run to meet her. 9-10 minutes. I know. Very slow. I am glad I can do it. I am slowly falling apart, my shoulder is in pain, my knee is in pain, and a dozen other small problems. Ah, how could I have forgotten to mention? Every flipping morning, before I go to work I do 12 minutes Physical Morning Jerks. Hate it. Do it anyway. Since Sep. 2009. I prefer to read a book or ...edit pictures or ...play FPS (have not done it for 28 months ~ 2 years and 4 months). Life is a bitch. |

If you hate it so much, why do you do it?

Supposedly it should prolong my miserable existence for a couple of years? Thus giving people (a person) who wants me to be around, could have it? This is the least I can do.

It is next to impossible to get all of the nutrients an athlete needs out of diet alone. supplements are the things that we take to help us reach our nutritional goals. An example of this would be vitamins, protein shakes ( protein extremely important when trying to put on muscle), and pretty much anything that adds to a diet.
I was up to 300 grams of protein a day. This would have been impossible for me to reach on my regular 5 meal diet. I also drink a lot of horse piss prior to working out. |

I used to play a lot of Football (not using the 'S' word), and Rugby (Union, not League). But injury and pubs put paid to that.
Now over in the old prison colony I do enjoy watching Aussie Rules. And I've just bought a bodyboard as a way to get me into the water more often. Also, Being a Pom in Oz, I am avidly keeping up with the Ashes as well. |

The general rule of thumb while trying to gain muscle is 1-2 grams per lb. This is why you see body builders eating a dozen eggs or 5-6 chicken breasts. |

Once upon a time, some 20+ years ago I was a huge fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger. His huge pictures dominated my room's walls along with Silvester Stallone and life sizes girls w/out much on them ![]() ![]() However, as I grew up I realised that sooner or later, there will be a moment in my life when I cannot do it because of health problems, career, age etc. When I stop, all the muscles will turn into huge slabs of fat. Sure, professionals who have made tons of money on it can allow for this because then they don't have to wake up every day at 6 am to go to work, so they can slowly unbuild their bodies, although I am not sure whether it works 100%. A classmate who had such a body at some point stopped body-building completely and resorted to some martial arts. He told me, that the healthiest way to train your muscles is by using your body mass only. I didn't believe him. Then, one day, I have met a kung-fu master, who was trained by Shaolin monk in third or forth generation, don't remember now. He lived, learned and trained there for 3 or 4 years. He managed to convince me that what my classmate told me was true. Since then, what I have seen only proved this point of view. Only young guys can do it. Build incredible muscle mass, tax their liver by eating supplements and enjoy life. Only slim people, who have muscles like wires are the real survivors. Omg. What am I talking about? ![]() Forget. Sorry about it. Last edited by astra; 12-09-2010 at 08:10 AM. |

![]() Some girls like to look at well-built boys. But date them ? Nu-uh. Been there, done that. They're usually too macho to handle a strong-minded woman ![]() Quote:
![]() To answer the OP's question: I try to run on a regular basis, although I find it hard to keep this up during the winter. I fell a couple of winters ago and sustained an injury that kept me from running for almost 4 weeks. I don't really think in terms of distance, but time. I try to run at least 45 minutes every other day. Sometimes I run every day, sometimes I don't run for a whole week. |

I used to surf, mountain bike, hike, lift weights, and practice mixed martial arts. Now I'm a homebody who enjoys writing, creating websites, working on the house, and spending time with my family. I've gained 20lbs. in the last several years
