If you did get a 600, return it right away and get a 650. You will love the 650 and not so much the 600. The 650 has a better screen and the touch is so much easier.

The 600 has the fatal library book flaw of not allowing PDF and Epub's at the same time, that was fixed in later models (900 and out)!

Unfortunately, yes, the Sony I got was the PRS-600, and it seemed rather dark, although readable... I'll definitely return it and try the 650. I just have to find one somewhere........
Now that I've got the Nook color sitting here, I'm really impressed. Large, comfortable, simple, great swiping, easy setup. I"m going through the manual to see what I need to see. BTW: I looked at that matrix, and I couldn't find ANY of the nook readers... I did, however, find a bunch I haven't heard of or seen at any of the stores I was in today. |

Oh, and as far as the "1.5" upgrade, does that apply to the Nook Color too, or just the standard Nook?

Sony 350 or 650. The library feature just works. Period.

OK, 24 hours of playing with readers..................
I took the Sony and Nook Color to bed with me last night... Put the same book on both and the light on the Sony, and read until about 2 a.m. The Sony is nice, fits easily against the side of my wife's pillow, and the swipe and buttons are good for page turning. BUT, even with the light, the 600 screen isn't very contrasty. The Nook is slightly larger, and displays pages better. I THINK it's because the text is crisper and I used a slightly smaller font, but it APPEARS more readable. The "night" mode is great, and I wound up turning the brightness down all the way. Still VERY readable. It ALSO sits nicely against the pillow and turning pages was very easy by swiping or touching the right margin.... In fast, BOTH were so easy to use I only needed one hand, which made Princess Skyy, one of our spoiled felines, very happy...... Since only one hand was working the book it left one available to pay attention to her... So, she stuffed herself in the space between wife and I, and proceeded to read along with me most of the night. At 5 a.m. my WIFE woke me up (after I got a whole couple hours sleep) to ask what I thought of the readers... I THINK this may be revenge for goofing up her idea for my Christmas present. In any case, I gave her both, with minimal instructions, and she found the Nook easier to use... She quickly got out to B&N and was looking at what's available, reading info, reading my book, looking at the Internet, and so on...... SO, this morning I returned the Sony, and went looking for a PRS-650... Which I did NOT find. I did, however, find a Pandigital I could play with and see how well it worked..... Side-by-side with the Nook Color it didn't hold up very well. Visibly not as sharp, slower to use, and it didn't feel as sturdy... But, then, it's also a lot less expensive, so that may be expected... I continued using the Nook today at lunch, and found it very convenient in the restaurant. So, unless I find a PRS-650 and it blows me away, it looks like the Nook is my choice at the moment....... I"m sure I'll find shortcomings over time, but so far, the only thing I find problematic is that I can't put MY books on the home page... And I suspect from the amount of flak they're getting in the B&N forum, that may get fixed with the 1.1 upgrade... |

It sounds like you found the right reader for you. Now sit back and enjoy!
And buy one for your wife, you are not going to want to share. |

If you like the nook, don't drive yourself crazy over a Sony (and other Epub devices), just enjoy it -- frankly, I suspect once you do locate a 650 to try, you'll find you like the nook as much, if not more.
Sorry if I missed it, but have you downloaded an actual library book yet? |

Yeah, I'm happy with the Nook...... So is my wife.... Which means I can now get HER one for Christmas since she's already out at B & N finding discount books and free books and so on......
Our local library system isn't on Overdrive yet, but I've got cards for three major systems in MN, and went out yesterday and pulled down a couple library books... Really easy with the Nook. Even easier than the Sony... Connected the USB, started the download, and told it to store right on the Nook media..... |

That is great that you are enjoying your Nook Colour (and your wife too)! I find that I love my Nook so much that I prefer it now over physical books. And that is something I thought I would never say.
