I got to play with a friend's Kindle yesterday, and I have to say: while that's a nice machine, and certainly has better search cababilities, I still prefer my kobo! As soon as I picked up the kindle, I accidentally hit a button I hadn't meant to push. Way too many buttons on that thing. I love the simplicity of the kobo.
Just sayin... ![]() |

I love my Kobo! In a few short minutes, it was up and running. It handles my PDFs so well. I review books and when pubs send digital galleys, it works great with the PDFs. I like it because it is most like a book to me. Simple, easy to hold.
I've downloaded from Borders, Kobo, and Sony stores with no problems. Next up is my library. I didn't want the bang and whistles other e-readers may offer because I don't need to get distracted by a game etc when I'm trying to get a book read. |

Inertia; tis nice to see a user who is happy with the PDF support! There have been so many posts on people who have issues with PDFs and the Kobo.

Well - I think you just said it all! I am a nerdy computer person - but that has perhaps won me over to simple operating systems, who needs 10 buttons when one will do?

Having already driven 200km round trip to replace my broken Kobo to the only store that still had a Kobo (let alone a black one) some might think I was a bit crazy but... reading a paper just wasn't the same anymore. Why?
It's lightweight, fits nicely in my jacket pocket as I like to have it on me especially if I am going out shopping with the wife. Secondary to that it also fits very nicely in my truck visor, also great as I can sit in my truck while my wife goes into shop and I don't get bored waiting (means I also don't have to go into the store either) and she doesn't worry about me sitting in the truck being bored feeling the need to hurry up. I can read it while walking to/from work even while it's raining without being worried about get any pages wet. I love being able to edit my books in the epub format, no worrying about proprietary formats like the others. I don't worry about making sure I have every spec of grease or anything else on my hands if I happen to be snacking and reading at the same time. No losing bookmarks either. When I read at work during lunch/coffee breaks I just place it in my locker when I am done and only have to hit the power button to wake it up to resume reading. I also love being able to increase the font size when I need to make it easier to read... usually while I am walking & reading at the same time and no I have never tripped or bumped into something/someone ever while doing that. Sure I could do all that with a pocket book, and I have, but the Kobo just simplifies the whole process. |

Belatedly, I think that the Kobo is:
1. Easily one of the most practical eReaders 2. Light and pleasant to look at and hold 3. Good screen size and clarity 4. Wifi enabled (now) 5. Easy to manage using a computer 6. Interface feels humble, streamlined 7. Interface is easily one of the best on an eReader (Sony... ugh!) 8. Has expandable memory slot (if you happen to get over a thousand books this could be useful (but most of us probably won't need to worry too much about this)) 9. I like saying the word "Kobo"! I spend egregious amounts of money on eBooks and the Kobo eats them up. I haven't really gotten around to Public Library books yet in my eBook career. Generally, if a book is worth reading it is worth paying for. If it ain't worth payin' for then it is probably not worth reading. Last edited by Anthem; 12-30-2010 at 06:35 AM. |

As far as my online library goes: most popular books are already 'checked-out', so I put them on hold (and I can do 5 holds at a time and have 5 books checked-out at a time). By the time my hold comes off (I get a handy email to let me know), I am usually done one of the books I already have checked out. The longest I've had to wait for a book is 6 weeks (that was The Confession by John Grisham) - so I can see being a bit inpatient for the bestsellers, so I may buy some of my favourites when they come out if I am anxious to read them. |

It is so easy on the eyes and comfortable to read. I am reading a huge Ken Follett book that my husband found unwieldy as a paperback. No such problems for me.
Now if I could just get the books onto Calibre, I would be set. |

The simplicity of the Kobo's design and not being locked to just one bookstore.

A decade later, I began to pine after some of the books I had borrowed and lamented over the fact that I did not possess them. I began a crusade of purchasing books I read many years ago and wanted to own. That quest continues to this day and every few months or so, while also picking my brothers brain if I am unable to remember an author or book title, I manage to retrieve one more book from my past that I felt may be irretrievable. Today, I purchase books. For the next two decades of my life, I won't make the same mistakes I made for the first two decades. For me, this is what works! |

Top 3 things: I like the ability to change font and margins. I love downloading from our libraries.

Simple easy to use with lots of choses for how to turn pages, fonts, page. So much better and faster than Kobo Wifi. With large fonts you could change fonts and read like flash cards, as fast you could read and turn page. Lots of new features added with up dates. Reading PDF books is Ok, usable but could be better and is limited by screen size and no color.
Up dates sometimes seemed 1 step ahead for some things and 2 steps back for other things. It has been an interesting experience. |

My list for Kobo in order:
- Great support for side-loaded epubs, just copy them into device; - Great support for side-loaded fonts, again, just copy ttfs into device; - Able to adjust font size as well as line space, the later is missing on some other ereaders; - Support microSD; - Simple and easy to use, takes less than 20 seconds to boot up (with firmware 1.9.17) and just one tap to open last-read book; |
