Like Lemurion, I consider my Kindle to be my bookshelf. Right now, just short of 300 books loaded. I'm usually reading 3-5 books at one time, though occasionally I get hooked on one and finish it in a day or two.

I used to have just my current book and next book loaded on my Palm with Mobipocket. I would then sync my notes to Mobipocket on my PC and delete the book from my device. I have no idea what I'm going to do with Android as there isn't anything that well developed for it yet. Right now I'm keeping my books on the device after I've finished reading them.

I keep a lot on my ereader, but not all. The problem is that I have more than a thousand ebooks and none of the ereaders have very good ebook management software. That's just too many books to scroll through. When I was using the Sony 505, I could at least group books in different categories. For example, I could put the same book in my to_read category, as well as the history category. I could also order the books within the category myself.

Unfortunately, the iPad reading apps (iBook, Kindle) don't have the same capability. All the programs seem to assume you will only have a few books at a time on the device.

I usually keep around 50-70 TBR's on my 505. Once I fall below 40, then I load up another 30 or so TBR's from Calibre.

I take public transit and most of my actual e-book purchases are not from the store associated with my reader (thus no downloading from the archives on-the-go), so I keep a variety on hand; fewer than 200 titles.

It's a mix of current reads, old favourites, freebie stuff that looked interesting enough to try, books I enjoyed that I might want to re-read, and library books.

I delete off stuff which turns out not to be all that interesting, books I've finished which were okay but I don't think I'll want to re-read, and the library books when I'm done.

I keep my old favourites on at all times in case I'm just not in the mood for anything else I've currently got and want to revisit some familiar "comfort reading" in the meantime.

Like LilacJive, I have all my unread books on there (sc card as well), and I delete them as I go. I use collections to keep them organized on the reader.

Same here. I also have a collection for Samples, and as I get to them, I'll delete or buy, then stick the new books into their appropriate genre collections.

I got my Nook and NOOKColor to be my bookshelf. Both devices have more than enough room to store my full paper collection of books if they were all ebooks (1500 books). I have been replacing paper with ebooks now for the last 6 months and am very happy to have the room back in my house.

My ebooks are backed up on my PCs and on "the cloud" as well as many of them on the B&N storefront. This makes me feel reasonably confident in trusting the electronic format.

So I keep all my books on my readers, every ebook I own is on both devices and I am very pleased with the organization the devices give me. Of course both are touch devices and have the ability to browse quickly through the library. The searching and sorting is also powerful on my readers.

Back in 1984 one of the first programs I wrote was a database for my library, I laboriously added ~200 books to the program and demonstrated in my 9th grade class. My books were browsable by author, genre, title, series, etc. Now every ebook I buy or save are automatically viewable by the same basic attributes. I don't have to buy a scanner and an ISBN database to make it manageable. I get it for free with my ereader. I get to have every book in my hands as well. I love it.

I re-read a lot, keeping all of my books with me is a joy and one of the big draws to ereaders for me.

I keep my complete library on the Pocketbook, read and unread. Since the books can be arranged in a file system on the reader, managing even larger amounts is no problem. And yes, I know it is not necessary to carry around 1500 books, but it just feels good to be able to chose

I'm gathering a lot of ebook in Calibre, and have about 300 on my K3. Have to re-read a lot of older books. Found a lot of new authors, at least to me, and they get on the K3 soon. I tend to have almost all on the K3 - more choices, not having to bother with a PC.

I got burnt doing that with my PRS-500. It did not like thousands of books.
Now I just upload to my PRS-600 gradually.

using both trook (on my nook) and calibre2opds I have a fantastic menu system for all of my books. So as a result I have loaded 3100 on the nook

You Tube video of trook running after calibre2opds has installed the books

I have all my books on all my readers. I never remove them, even after I read them. I did that at one point, but then I wanted to paraphrase something I had read earlier but couldn't because I didn't have the book on the device anymore...
