I find that the browser works great for forum reading. I spend lots of time per day reading thread after thread on different forums and for that, the nook works great. (No eye strain. ) For everything else? Pretty ho-hum. Stick with the mobile versions of sites that cell phones use if you can.

That's an interesting idea, Ken. Thanks.

Meanwhile, I sent an email to 1and1.com tech support asking them if there was any way to get rid of the message that says I am not using the most optimal browser, specifically telling them that I was using a Nook and that this message was preventing me from using their email facility. This is the answer i got:

"I believe that it is on the browser that you are using, I advise that you will use the mozilla firefox browser in accessing your e-mails on the webmail. Please access your e-mail to this URL: email.1and1.com"

They essentially ignored the Nook part of my question. Helpful, huh.

(I don't want to root my Nook, at least at this point).

They probably have never heard of a Nook.

You might simply ask if they have a mobile web site for use with smartphones.

Good idea, Ken. Looking thru my account and their website, unfortunately they don't have it. But it is a good thing to pursue with them, since they do seem to be behind the times in this area.
