Any rumors about an Amazon e-reader floating around?

Thanks for your observations Anchoku. I was wondering since you observed the PicoP, what do you think of it? I mean would you pay an extra $100 for it to be embedded into your cell phone, or $199 or $299 for a stand alone that could be plugged into various devices? Maybe it's a kid thing. They seem to want all the new gagets and cell phones with all the bells and whistles.

Thanks again for helping out.

Power consumption doesn't seem too bad so a battery pack should suffice. It's a fairly small device and I'd estimate it at under 1 x 3 x 10 cm. Speckle is annoying due to the tiny numerical aperture (if I remember my physics right) but in some situations may be acceptable. It requires, of course, a plain, whitish screen to show images on. Projecting on anything with a background pattern would decrease its effectiveness. The box is black and silver but that's hardly an issue. Also, being based on semiconductor lasers, no focus is necessary.

The real trick is finding people who have situations where they need a projector for PMP content rather than using a lower-power PMP display. Sharing a PMP or cell phone between freinds could short-circuit their market.

-----edit----

Oh, yes. One last note to mention is it works best in dim lighting. The brighter the ambient lighting, the smaller and closer you should make the image to get acceptable contrast.

Hillerby, price is not as much an issue (although, it is an issue) as having an easy to use application people want. Without the app and a convenient infrastructure to deliver content, the hardware will never go anywhere.

Develop a range of useage or conditions where viewing content is acceptable. The HMD on the other side of the kiosk may actually prove to be more convenient and useful in a wider range of conditions. Imagine being in a dim pub, for the benefit of the projector, and wanting to read e-mail or watch Youtube. How likely will it be there is an acceptable, flat surface to project on that will look better than an expensive cellphone PDA, your target market's main accessory? Develop a better scenario, one people will put down their Blackberry for, and you have sales.

a flat surface is not needed due to the infinite focus...I haven't seen the PicoP nor tried it out so I would be only guessing as to the surfaces or places it could project on.....but I could see this scenario happening in a dimly lit pup.....Someone projecting a picture they want to show a group by finding a cute well endowed girl with a light colored top and projecting the image on the front of her top.... I can imagine the curiosity it would generate with the other patrons....not to mention the fact men could then stare at the girl's attractions...LOL How about an image of a naked girl/or guy projected onto another....I can hear the laughter now...An image of a girl/guy with another person projected onto her/his date at the momemt.... I can think of so many fun things to do with it...not to mention projecting data, text or pictures too small to see on the tiny screens that other business associates might be interested in seeing. Bring a folded up piece of paper with you....or a napkin.....anothers white shirt to project on....Talk about a fun business meeting.....Just my thoughts...I bet others have ones too...
