Agreed 100%. Graves' "The Greek Myths" is generally regarded as "the definitive work". But ignore the bits between the stories where he gives his own, slightly odd, interpretation of them!

It was originally published as two volumes, but's was subsequently reprinted as a single book, which is the version I have.

Robert Graves is perhaps better known outside the academic community as being the author of "I, Claudius".

This is slightly off topic, as I know that you are looking for ebooks and I'm not sure that the books that I am going to mention can be found as ebooks, but perhaps you can find them at your local library. Here goes:

http://www.amazon.com/Comparative-My...1562534&sr=8-1

Comparative Mythology by Jaan Puhvel. There are sections on Greek and Roman mythology, as well as other indo-european mythologies. A very interesting read. It's not perhaps what you were looking for, but I warmly recommend it nonetheless.

Also, Morford's "Classical Mythology".

http://www.amazon.com/Classical-Myth...1562698&sr=1-1

It's pricey, but you can pick up older editions for a couple of bucks (I did). I think that it fits the description of the sort of book that you are looking for. It's very detailed and includes translated source material. Oxford might even offer an ebook version, I'm not sure offhand (I own a pbook version of both books I've mentioned.)

Which is also an excellent mini-series available on DVD. If you've ever wondered what Captain Picard looked like back when he had hair, well, now you can indulge your curiosity.

I was going to have a nostalgic flip-through of my deluxe slipcased 2-volume illustrated hardcover reprint of Graves' Greek Myths, but unsurprisingly, now that I want to take a look, I can't find it anymore.

When I was in grad school, the standard work we used in translation was Rolfe Humphries translation of Ovid's Metamorphoses, which seems to be available for Kindle. (Metamorphoses is a large collection of greek myths collected by the Roman poet Ovid).

Rock, this is also slightly off topic as well, but if you want the best reference dictionaries available on Classical Mythololgy, you will definitely want this one:

http://www.archive.org/details/small...sical007096mbp

You will just have to convert it over to be able to use it on your Nook. I bought this in paperback back in my college days and it is still my most used reference book. I am really glad it is available as an ebook as my copy is starting to fall apart.

For those wanting it in pback version, here is the Amazon link:

I have just finished reading The Penguin Book of Classical Myths by Dr Jenny March, first published in 2008 by Allen Lane (she has taught at London, Reading and Southampton universities, was a British Academy Postdoctoral Research Fellow at University College London and is attached to Corpus Christi College, Oxford; her several books include the acclaimed Cassel Dictionary of Classical Mythology, winner of the 1999 Runciman Award) ISBN 978-0-241-95358-7 (590 pages, with maps, constellation charts, B&W illustrations and colour plates, bibliography and of course index), alas not an e-book, but I can recommend it most highly, nevertheless.

Edith Hamilton and Hourly History

Edith Hamilton's book on Mythology for sure!

I also quite like Hourly History's book series on Greek, Norse, Egyptian and Celtic Mythology. You can check out their book on Greek Mythology on the link below.

If you want some related fiction check out Mary Renault's historical/mythological books. I only read The King Must Die and The Bull From the Sea but there are others.

Something way off perhaps and if you are a purist, ignore them but I was fairly amused by the Percy Jackson books by Rick Riordan. They of course are stories but there's a fair amount of mythology included (however, with some liberties taken)..

The English translation of Gustav Schwab's gets a lot of praise. The kindle version is kind of expensive but it clocks in at over 700 pages. The paperback is a couple of dollars cheaper.
