Well Templario, as you stated, I lose the formatting. This may be acceptable; however, I would love to keep the formatting if possible.

The document is protected with a chunk of embedded JavaScript. Neither Poppler, nor as it turns out Mac OS X's Preview can execute the JavaScript. In the case of Poppler it would also need to have the ability to fill in the form, which is also not supported.
So two major chunks of code would need to be implemented in Poppler for this to work on the iLiad: fillable forms and JavaScript. Neither of those has a high probability of being implemented any time soon. Use of any tool to circumvent this form of protection in the USA/EU is of course a violation of the DMCA unless you have permission from the copyright holder to do so. But if they were willing for you to have unprotected files they'd just give them to you right? So legally you're very likely stuck to viewing them on a PC. I'd hate to see Mobileread or any of the tool authors (any tool that doesn't respect the copy protection is in violation of the DMCA as a "Circumvention Device") get in any trouble by continued discussions of how to break into the files. On the hopeful side of things, I've got a Java based PDF viewer cooking for the iLiad that should be able to legally grant access to these documents. So stay tuned here to Mobileread. |

Thanks much Scotty, I will sit hopeful that you find a "legal" solution.
I'm not looking to get anyone in trouble. I own these documents and would just like the ability to view them in a format of my choosing (not on the PC). My intent is not to share these unlocked versions with anyone (not sure who would want them anyway since they are for school). ![]() I would love to find a way to enter my information and authenticate using the Iliad and that was the reason I elected to purchase this device in the first place. I was quite frustrated when it didn't work as I had hoped. ![]() I really just want a solution for reading these documents on my device. Thanks. |

Well, as scotty said pdf file uses Javascript plus extensive bulk of form fields.
Forms & a "Container <OC> Path" hide text on all pages. JavaScript handles "lending" of pdf file, after entering a correct user id & pwd you can use the file offline for some days, after expiration you have to active it again. Thanks to an unforeseeable miracle DRM disappeared on my laptop. ![]() |

You need to have Acrobat Extended 9 (well that what I use)
you can unlock it with username/pw save as (optimized PDF) DISCARD OBJECTS & DISCARD USER DATA = your friends discard all form submission, import, and reset flatten form fields discard all javascript actions discard all alternate images discard all comments forms and multimedia discard document information and metadata discard hidden layer content and flatten visible layers delete the unlock page Protection removed. You may now use it on your Ereader. Check if this is legal? I assume it is because you can PRINT TO XPS/PDF and then put it on your ereader, but the filesize will be huge (standard textbook 10 mb file -> 400mb, if you use my method it will remain 10mb) Oh, most of the time they don't prohibit save of the PDF, but they NEVER prohibit OPEN. If save is locked, you will need a PDF cracker software, 99% sure you will not need this, as you have the information to unlock the pdf already for view (you own access to the PDF). All this overlay is, is an image overlay on every page that says (protectedpdf), and then some text overlays underneath this with some random garbage text to hinder conversion. When you use the form to enter login/pass, it simply uses javascript to hide all of the overlays. So enter password and do what I said above. If you don't know the password, it's probably hashed so GL digging it out of the javascript, so your next best option is to delete/remove all of the overlays (GL with that).
