Yes, even in countries with a high standard of workplace safety regulations mining is still a very dangerous job. I often wonder how many are killed or maimed in countries where worker safety is not regulated. Even without the dangers from cave-ins there is a constant risk of gas explosions, fire and flooding. When miners demand better safety - please listen to them. They are tough people but no-one wants to take unnecessary risks and leave families devastated.

We don't have mining in our country anymore, but it caused a lot of trouble for the miners with their lungs in the long run.
I feel for the family of the miners who didn't make it. It's so sad.
