No. It is restricted for some accounts. It depends on what country is registered to your account as people have gotten unrestricted web access by changing the country. I'm unsure whether the country you're currently in will affect it or not but it is also possible.

I have Kindle 3 with 3g WHOSE SERIAL NUMBER STARTS WITH B006. This means that its SIM card is from AT&T. Usually people say that they are not able with such Kindle to have free unrestricted 3G access in Europe. The European Kindle 3 have serial numbers staring with B00A and their SIM cards are from Vodafone. Nevertheless, I succeeded to have unrestricted 3G access in France for two weeks just by deregistering and then registering from France. Now I don't have again free 3G access accept for amazon store and Wikipedia. I don't understand what are really the rules for the 3G access abroad for US customers (serial B006).

Kindle 3 - 3G does work in the Czech Republic!
Hi All,
I think there's a few errors in some of the previous posts. I have a European Kindle 3 (3G version) which I bought from Amazon in the UK on 19th December 2010. I am currently using it in the Czech Republic (A town called Roztoky - just outside of Prague) and have full 3G connectivity. I have been able to use the inbuilt browser to check my webmail (Https access), read the news from the BBC's website, check flight times on Wizzair's website as well as read up on tech reviews from the "trustedreviews.com" website....all for free....You don't need to buy a SIM card (it has one built in) or pay for any data costs. So - if you can live with your webpages being displayed in black&white (and the relatively small screen size) it's a handy device if you need to use the web on the move. Hope this info helps! Maxik Notes for the techies among you: My serial number starts with "B00AA" so this is definitely the European version. My Kindle software version number is : 3.0.2 |

Mine is a Kindle 2 International bought in the UK - here in Bulgaria all books have $2.30 added for the delivery (ever free books). But the surfing with the browser, Kindle shop, syncing is still free. The carrier is MTel Bulgaria (try 611 page).

I don't know what you mean by "you cannot surf the web". You most certainly can.

The UK has Vodafone and free unrestricted 3G. In some countries in Europe Amazon hasn't been able to make a deal with Vodafone so there's ' only' Wikipedia and Amazon.com for free possible. But all Kindles can handle 3G of course, in principle. But I wouldn't surf on the web for hours on a Kindle, with black/white small screen and its other limitations. Ahem; it's an ereader, not a smartphone. But it can come in very handy in case of emergency; always a connection with the internet. ![]() |
