It was Trapped by Jack kilborn and i went to read the review after seeing it on here under reading recomendations as i often do.
Here is the part of the review that really grabbed me. TRAPPED by Jack Kilborn It starts where other horror ends A Word of Warning: This is the long-awaited follow-up to AFRAID, one of the most horrifying books ever written. Originally scheduled to be released in paperback in 2010, the publisher read the first version of the manuscript and refused to release it. The author made extensive changes, rewriting much of the story. The publisher still refused. This is a disturbing, terrifying book. You may think you're brave enough to handle it. But you're probably not... Maybe i am just a wimp !!!!!! ![]() |

Ah, LOL, I just read Afraid, and while it went a direction I wasn't expecting, it was very enjoyable, and not nearly as gruesome as I thought it would be, so I bought Trapped.
The nice thing, is in the eBook version, he gives you the one that was edited for the publisher, and the "directors cut version" all in one book with a little Forward (afterward?) separating the two. I actually can't wait to read it! |

Well, I just read Trapped.....it was very underwhelming. It wasn't as disgusting as you might thing, and it jumps around....ALOT, to the point that it doesn't makes sense sometimes.
I could see why the publisher hated it....it's not the violence.....it's the poor story. I will be honest and say that I did read this in just about one sitting, it was far from boring, and had alot of action. But when reflecting on the story it was A.) Predictable B.) Convoluted C.) Things just "happened" to be all setup in the right place and the right time. There was only one part that made me go "oh wow, that would be painful" and it had to do with a "gridiron" and I'm not talking about the football field. |

I like to read True Crime books, and they bother me more than fiction. It's scarey to realize that these are REAL people who have done these terrible things.

They are non-fiction, but are written in a very interesting way. They are all stories that have been in the news. You can even go on the internet and see pictures of the people in the stories. Some good authors are Kathryn Casey, hers are especially good, and M. William Phelps has written some good ones too.

I've found things to be a bit unsettling while reading - "Exquisite Corpse" by Poppy Z Brite comes to mind. I usually use that as my example of - "Argh! That's disgusting!". Strangely enough though, I did like the book - it was very well written.
But I think the only story that actually upset me past the reading enough to have me staring into space at times lost in the horror was "The Long Walk" by Richard Bachman. I know - only a short story. However, that story had a profound effect on me that I couldn't shake for a couple of weeks after reading. Regards Caleb |

I concur. Some books/themes just disturb me (as can movies). I know this about myself, so I just don't watch or read those types of books.
I do so loved to be MOVED by a book. A good books should touch one's emotions and stir one's imagination. Lee |

The only book that's ever moved me is
Remember Why You Play It was free quite a while ago on Amazon....and I snatched it up....just an awesome story...yes it has some Christian overtones....and I'm not religious, but this book had some GREAT lessons to be learned. As a side note, I'm going to try an M. William Phelps book in the next few weeks. |

There's also a movie of _The Girl Next Door_ directed by Gregory Wilson. I can read almost anything, but I don't know that I could read that book knowing what is going to happen to her. Very intense on film, I can only imagine the intensity of the book.

I've read things that disturbed or frightened me, but its what I "see' that tends to stay with me. Just the reactions from The Girl Next Door seems to be enough of a deterrent (for now) from reading it...although I'd be lying if I didn't say that my curiosity is definitely piqued. I don't know if I can handle the book or not; that would all depend on whats behind the cover, but, I could probably guarantee that if it is as horrifying as you say, I would never watch the movie.

My curiosity is what got me peaked as well after reading Off Season. The only thing I can say about The Girl Next Door is that it brings back that innocence you had when you were a kid, and all those feelings involved, and then rips them right from you and tears them into little pieces. |
