Help - Kindle stuck on Software Update - Page 2

Still no idea why some Kindles (FW 3.x only) fail to load some fonts... The only time that ever happened to me, that was with the *default* fonts (ie. Caecilia), and it worked fine 5 minutes later. >_<".

But, using a freetype override (bci or autohint) seems to 'fix' it, so my guess would be a weird freetype bug/interaction bug with the Java framework in the specific freetype version (or paches?) bundled with FW 3.x. That doesn't really explain why it only happens on some Kindles, though.... -_-"

EDIT: Yep, a straight Kindle to Kindle copy of a DRM'd book would explain the PID mismatch

1. My kindle 3 freeze sometimes when i browse the web. Today it happen again and i try to restart but without success. It stay for 1/2 hors with blank screen... After manny try to restart I get the message "update failed" and "error code: 3" with advise to report that and to press the R button. Is the second time that hapened in 1 week.
2. other bad things is that kindle reset itself almost daily..

What I can do? I am a little worry for that.

Hi Kinkle,

The same happened to my Kindle 3. It was freezing at the tree and when trying to uninstall a hack or upgrade to the Kindle new firmware, I was getting the "update error 3".

After reading NiLuJe's (helpful posts inthie thread) I realized that I overloaded the fonts directory with too many fonts (some were huge more than 2 MB) taking up about a total of 36MB size. I quickly deleted that linkfonts folder and hard rebooted the kindle using the 15 seconds methods and its started fine.

Try this method and lets us know.

Thanks to NiLuJe for spending time on these issues and responding with valuable suggestions.

I have full access via PC, but it doesn't work on itself - all what I can do is to reeboot device and get screensaver again...
