FYI, the code is still working as of this morning. I went in and bought more magazines.

I also keep three copies of everything I purchase. One copy on my device, one on the computer and a third backup copy on Amazon S3. This way, barring a world wide disaster which kills me, my reader and my computer, plus which brings down the multi redundant systems at Amazon's S3 service everything I own is safe from being lost.

There remain the DRM-free multi-format books which offer interesting material but generally no mainstream stuff. Pity. The disintegration of the service continues.
Yow, I hadn't heard they'd dropped epub support! Damn, that's one more nail in the coffin. It certainly reduces what I would buy from them, though I guess I've mostly shopped in the multiformat side, anyway.

My guess is, B&N said, "We'll take care of the epub market, you fellows just keep the eReader customers on the hook a little longer, would you?"

This is also unfortunate to the authors in the multiformat shop (like me, with my E-reads titles). FW still seems to sell more of my books than any of the other shops, including Baen, where they are cheaper and better formatted. It's an outlet I hate to see shriveling up like this.

They still have epub as an option for multi-format books. It's just that they seem to only offer Secure Ereader format for whatever "mainstream" books they have left.

It's sad. I used to buy all my stuff there. At least they still have multi-format stuff that interests me.

Maybe you know someone who could liberate the books for you?

They bought them for their intellectual property, not for the ebook store. At least, that's how it seems to me.

Of course, the agency pricing helped speed up their decline.

But agency pricing doesn't explain things like dropping Mobipocket and ePub formats (except in Multiformat), nor the removal of subscriptions for magazines (like Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine).
