I saw the first one on TV and I thought the same thing when I saw them pulling it out of the jewelery draw and sticking it in the back pocket but then at the end they flash up the only $139. I was left with the impression they were saying, take it with you and enjoy it. Don't worry so much about it. It's only $139. If it breaks buy another one.

I don't like the disposable mentality but it does a lot to change the thinking that it's one of those expensive gadgets. Amazon has been doing an amazing job of advertising.

totally agree. You can' fling it about, or stick it into uour back pocket, and throwing it into your jewelry drawer?.......thats just asking for trouble.

I've grown to love reading it 'nekkid' (the Kindle!) but allowing the dog to lick all over it??

UH UH! To me, its being advertised as being way more sturdy than it is.....and its going to come back and bite them.
I handed down one of my K1s to my son, but then upgraded him to a K2 this summer, but when I saw him pull the K1 out of his carry on bag (he had just flown in for my Dad's funeral) nekkid, I put a restriction on the gift that he had to buy a cover before he left. he got on line and bought one immediately

Really? This lazy American sits quite a bit, but never with a relatively delicate electronic device in one of my back pockets. Kindle abuse indeed!

The ad with the grandmother and grandson is very nice. I loved getting books for Christmas and my birthdays (still do) so I think I would have loved to have had one of these eReaders when I was a youngster - so many books all at one's finger tips. I didn't abuse my books so don't think I would have abused my eReader either, but the Kindle is certainly more delicate than a paper back or hard back book. A lot of eBooks, however, (except for the many public domain eBooks) are expensive and I wouldn't have had the money to buy them (or "real" books for that matter) as a kid. I loved going to the library and bringing home 10 books (the limit in those days) at a time, though, so could imagine loading up the Kindle with lots of free books.

Umm I don't think you need to sit done to break the kindle if you have it stuffed in your back pocket. Unless you're one of these kids who wear baggy loose pants hanging down your knees.

The thing that really weirded me out in the first ad was putting the Kindle in the back pocket. Screen out, no less!

I sometimes put my iPod in my back pocket, but the delicate screen faces my nice, soft body, not the cruel, hard, pointy world.

I guess they're trying to make the "it's not *that* expensive; just use it" argument. But still. I take my Kindle everywhere (in its cover) read it in the bath even (I'm often too lazy to even put it in a ziploc, though I probably should do that) but I'm careful with that screen!

I loved the second ad, though. I wonder what kind of book budget she put him on?

I think Amazon is trying to tell us "it's light and thin" by shoving it in a back pocket. That K3 won't last long. Not with the way it was treated and without a cover.

Your comment is the most voted for that video. Congrats.

But I always laugh when I see the second most voted:
