Hey, that seemed to have done it! I put the settings at 14/17 and I now have 2 books which display clearly, one converted from mobi and one from text.

Helen, your combination of tips did the trick. I reloaded the books from the original source, and changed the settings to 14/16.5. They're perfect. =)
