@Kovid: I'll try to do what I can, but this is how I am seeing this device in Windows explorer.

When you click on that icon, what do you see in the path line in the explorer? Is it a UNC path? If so, can you use NET USE to mount that path on a drive letter?

Can you see the device in Calibre's connect to folder dialog box, probably under My Computer?

I'm afraid this only gets you so far - because this gives you access to the media hub folder on the WP7 device. But none of the media hub software knows how to read ebooks. Freda can do that, but it has no access to the media hub; for Freda to be able to see a book file, the file has to be in the isolated storage area specific to Freda (app id c1e312da-52d6-df11-a844-00237de2db9e). I don't think this registry fix lets you do that.
The good news is that I am working on a way to bulk-copy files into Freda's isolated storage ... the bad news is that it might take me another week or two to get it right.

@Chaley: the UNC path listed is Computer\RK HD7 T9292\Storage (where RK HD7 T9292 is what I have named my device via zune).

I am unable to map this to any drive letter using Net Use. Perhaps you could tell me the exact syntax?

@Jim: good to see that you are on to it. Is there anything I can do to help?

UNC really does not like spaces in the name.
You might get it to work replacing each space with "%20" and see if that works
