Why not upgrade? This is a major change to the iLiad's internals (for the better). Most likely the reflash and mobipocket is just going to be a bit of addon software. I have a feeling (not confirmed by anything other than my gut) that if you were to brick your iLiad with 2.9.5, that you would be able to reflash once they release the unbricker...

Succesfull upgrade here, booting seems faster (around 20 seconds), page turns seem faster too. hopefully not just wishful thinking

I agree on booting, though I didn't time it. Shutdown seems quicker, too, as does cursor movement through the directory pages.

The oddest thing is my screen got somewhat grayer about a month after I got the unit, and this seems to have improved that degradation. My impression is it was a bit brighter originally, but it appears to be better than before the upgrade. And I'm hoping that isn't wishful thinking, too.

i have seen that in the 2.9.5 have less ghosting at least in my iliad, only "1 day" testing the 2.9.5, but i got a "funny" bug and now i'm in the work and can't test it, but i can ask a question in this forum....

Have you got any problems with the mp3, in the 2.9.5, or are my auriculars that have and fail hardware, i try to listen to music in the road to my work, and i listen very "silenced" the voices, i don't why the pianos, the guitars, or the songs of the iliad have no problem, but when i listen to a aria i have to concretate to listen the voice.... i was using the mpd player, any ideas¿?¿?

Just out of curiosity, I timed the boot. 46 seconds on my iLiad. I wonder, why some people always need to claim that everything is faster and better after an update, without any solid data to back up that claim!

I did say "seems".. and my counting method was 1 1000, 2 1000, 3 1000... so not the most accurate, actual startup time as I flicked power switch 49sec, power down time 19sec.. I never timed how it was before the update

So sue me for being a optimist

And remember.. a placebo is as good as the real thing

I agree. With the 2.9.1 update, iliad became to do ghosting on everything, sometimes difficult to work with. Now it looks much better, like time ago.

The boot speed is the same to me, maybe a little bit faster (just my appreciation) as realityloop says ...

I'm still checkin all the new faces on the iliad, starting to open again it to access through dropbear. For now it all seems to be ok.

If we have had shell access, will we need to request it again after this upgrade?

No, ids server knows MAC addresses of iLiads with requested shell access.

So i timed it...

Three consecutive times, no PIN (screen), CF card in place,
down and up to "Last Read" screen, hand-stopped:

2.9.1 down: (17,44 / 18,49 / 18,04) ~ 17,99 [s]
2.9.5 down: (14,91 / 15,25 / 15,61) ~ 15,25 [s]

2.9.1 up: (44,24 / 45,13 / 44,26) ~ 44,54 [s]
2.9.5 up: (44,09 / 44,05 / 44,89) ~ 44,34 [s]

Go figure...

You can find the official announcement in regard to mobipocket here

http://www.irextechnologies.com/mobipocket

IF everything goes well than the mobipocket viewer should hit iDS somewhere next week.
