Each DRMed ebook file that Amazon send you is locked to one device. So if you have multiple devices the ebook files are not interchangeable (same content, different encryption). This is only a minor issue providing Amazon supports all devices you use and you don't ever want to edit an ebook.

Stripping AZW DRM also allows ePub device owners to buy from the Kindle store. This is probably the most significant use of AZW (K4PC) DRM removal.

Stripping ePub DRM allows the reverse - ePubs converted to MOBI via Calibre on a Kindle. The Kindle Store is the best single ebook store, but there are ebooks with DRM that are not available on the Kindle but are a B&N or Sony (say).
