Oh, and for your information, I have always read on my LCD screen, outside, on a sunny day. Without any problems. The only reason I bought the e-ink was because of battery life (though, with the backlight turned off, my PDA can last most of the day (at least that part that is warm enough to lay outside in the hammock...)) Neither is perfect for all conditions. But saying that you cannot read on LCD is pure nonsense. Last edited by Sweetpea; 12-05-2010 at 03:40 AM. |

They are actually for sale here in South Africa as well. Their 10" tablet seems appealing for when it gets released. I think that should work nicely for PDF viewing and it seems to be the cheapest Android tablet available over here.
It would be interesting to see how it performs. |

At that price it couldn't possibly have anything resembling decent hardware. The screen will be lousy and so will be the rest of the device. If you pay 70 pounds in the UK then the ex factory price will be around 30, probably less. Even if you imagine they use free prison labor they still can't give you anything worth having for that price.

Before we write this off it would be good if someone could actually get to see one of these working. I don't have a branch of Waterstone's near me here, but I'll try to remember to pop into one next time I'm in one of them big cities. Graham |

I've got one which worked fine for about a month but then started locking up on the ebook list after the first 11 pages.
After some experimentation I've managed to work out that I can store as many books as a I want and access them provided there are no more than about 50 in any single folder. I've tried resetting, firmware upgrades and formatting the onboard flash but nothing solves the problem. I presume there is some buffer flash or ram somewhere that isn't being cleared during resets or firmware rewrites that is either full or faulty resulting in the limitation that has suddenly appearred. Up to then it was brilliant any ideas on solving my problem would be appreciated. I did pull it apart and it's powered by a Boxchip X10 cpu, display memory is a EM42BM1684RTC chip and flash a H27UBG8T2ATR |

It's a nice piece of kit, much better than eink readers which I find totally useless in the dark when I do most of my reading.
It's much much faster than my old sony prs-650 which was very slow turning pages and listing books. The problem I mentioned above seems to be related to the number of books stored on internal memory and went away when I reduced the number to 50ish and put the rest on sd cards. It gets slower if there are large numbers of books (<1000) on SDcards but not as slow as the sony. The only real drawback is the 5in screen is slightly too small for viewing pdf comicbooks unless you use the horrendously fiddly zoom feature. mp3 playback is faultless and video works well although it won't play mkv files. |

I do nearly all of my reading of novels on an Archos 5IT. My KDXG sits on the desk beside me as I (re)learn my programming skills.
Browsing thropugh Waterstones site - http://www.waterstones.com/waterston...-readers/1918/ - this is more tempting. a 6" e-ink reader for £79.99! |
