G, But I believe they still don't have the 950 cover without the light available at this time. If they do, I can't find it.

The cover with light for the 950 is actually a great buy. Much better product than the cover with light they had for the 900. Lighter and brighter... I know that's not what you are looking for - I wasn't myself, but I bought it because the regular cover was unavailable. In retrospective, I am really glad I did and would recommend doing the same, unless you really, really don't want the whole thing to be a bit wider...

+1. That would be just my luck too! I couldn't take it anymore reading posts from people who already had their new 950. I admit that I was jealous! I really wanted the white iPhone 4 too. And I'd still be waiting now 4 months after launch if I hadn't bought black...

I am getting used to reading on silver again although I still would prefer black. It is similar to the 505 housing. Although the 950 has a deeper bezel which reflects a black color. So it's kind of like having a black band around the screen and that seems to help a little bit for reading. What's more annoying now is the chrome look on the sides and buttons because that really reflects bright light depending on how you hold it. At least the case is a matte silver.

The black cover without light is now in-stock at SonyStyle. Mine arrived in the mail today. Quality is equal to the last generation. I am worried the fabric-like part of the cover will attract dust or dirt particles (and hopefully not cat hair!). I would've liked color options for the cover too.

I am still holding out for the black 950, but sorely tempted to buy the silver at a local Best Buy so I can play with one for thirty days. At the end of 30 days, I would either keep it or return it if the black came out. ABT.com still says the black 950 ETA is Nov. 2010. I have one preordered since Sept...

I too have a pre-order through ABT and am wondering if Nov. 2010 is true or just a guess. Worse yet is I have the case already... just need the actual reader LOL... If ABT is just guessing on the release month, and December rolls around with no word on the black, I think I am going to cancel and just get the silver.

Follow up: Today I was told by an ABT.com rep that Sony had informed them on Monday that the PRS-950 would not be supplied in black. This has been noted in another thread, but thought it needed to be posted here as well.

So...I am now the proud owner of a silver 950. The screen contrast and clarity is awesome!
