Yep, I second that about Gary Shteyngart, though I've only read his first one. It's tough pulling off what he does. Looking forward to getting to his other two. Somebody tell me which one's better -- Absurdistan or the new one?
For me the funniest book ever is Confederacy of Dunces, but that's not really answering your question. Steve Last edited by Steve Anderson; 10-28-2010 at 08:36 PM. |

I very seldom dip into comedy, but I've liked the three Nick Hornby novels that I've read. High Fidelity is my favorite so far.

Any of John Mortimer's Rumpole series.
I've also just begun reading Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next Series. Literary fiction meets science fiction. Strange but hilarious. |

If my mom was on the forum, I'm sure she'd recommend Carl Hiaasen.

I will third, (or is it 4th) Evanovich's Plum series. Imagine slapstick bounty hunting. With hilarious characters.
I've also listened to the first of Jasper Fforde's Thursday next series. It was definitely odd and interesting, but I'm not sure it's laugh-out-loud funny. However, I feel the urge to go and buy the next one. ![]() Pratchett is the king IMHO. Good Omens is my favorite. I couldn't get into Christopher Moore, although I tried. |

Terry Pratchett is certainly high up on the list. Also: Christopher Moore and Carl Hiaasen.
