Depends on the book. Maybe a couple of hundred for a special book. I'm not into collecting, but I could see paying even more in that case.

For ebooks, my limit is $9.99 since I read mostly fiction and rarely, if ever, re-read anything. I have so many ebooks waiting to be read that I'm no longer tempted by new releases, I just wait until the price comes down, or until I can get them from the library.

For paper reference books, I've paid as much as $90, but only because I continually reuse them.

cheers

I don't think there are any limits if I want the book and have enough money. Recently I bought a Kindle book for 13$, because I wanted to read it quickly. I could have gone through the pirate sources I know, looking for it, but that would take more time and might only reveal the book wasn't there.

For an ebook I wouldn't usually pay more than $3, but I have paid $6 for one because I really wanted to read it but didn't think it was worth the $150 (+ post to UK) the paper version would cost. For real books I don't really have an upper limit because they hold or increase their value and can be cashed in later in life. Ebooks are just disposable entertainment and have no intrinsic value.

I haven't bought a paper book in a while. In the past, I've gone up to $9 for an e-book, but I won't anymore. I think I'd have a hard time going over $6 or $7 now.

An author I know and trust £10 maybe for a new book. Author's generally ok then maybe £8 or so hopefully discounted from cover price (even for ebooks I like a discount) someone recommended to me £2 or less, and people I haven't heard of, probably £0 until I've enjoyed the work, I'll happily tip £2-5 afterwards though.

Ok, we need to get you some help and fast. You really need it badly. To buy the George Bush book is bad enough. But to pay $350 for it is in serious need of help.

I paid 27 bucks or so for the hardback "The Evolution of Childhood" within the last year.

I have not (and probably won't) pay for an ebook.

I use ebooks for light reading: fiction and pop nonfiction of the Gladwell ilk

Depends on the book. I've paid $40 for a hardcover reference book that I use over & over. For fiction I used to pay for hardcovers when they were discounted at B&N. Now I'll only go as high as $12.99 with my e-readers. But that is seldom. Generally I hunt for bargains.

$9.99 for a newer ebooks, tops, and that's only if it's not available from the library, it's exempt from Kobo coupons, and I really, really, really want it. For an older ebook (out more than, say, 12 or 18 months), $9.99 starts to seem too high to me.

That's for books I absolutely know I want. For books I'm not sure about (regarding how much I'll enjoy them, whether I'll finish them, etc--samples aren't enough to tell for me, when it comes to fiction) I can hold out till they drop below $4. I have plenty of other books to read in the meantime.

I was willing to pay it because it will be/is a collector's item -- it is a limited edition (1,000 copies) and autographed. Otherwise I wouldn't pay more than $20 for the book.

I've paid 165€ for a book in the public domain...
For ebooks I don't know exactly, because of the price of the readers, wich has to be amortized...

Does it come pre-coloured in or is that left for you to do yourself?

Depends on the author. I paid $23.95 for the ebook of "A Deeper Sleep" by Dana Stabenow. I'd do it again for one of hers in the Kate Shugak series.

I purchase pBooks for gifts to my non-eBook relatives. Seldom, for my own reading, do I feel that I absolutely 'must' buy the very latest release from current top authors. I'll wait until they are available at currently 'reasonable' prices, which I consider to be $9.99 or less for eBooks. I purchase hardbacks only as gifts, with rare exception.

Virtually all books today that are primarily text are written and edited on digital word processors. Text formatting is done automatically both before release and within our eReaders. Books so offered should be cheaper because there is virtually no distribution cost, no printing cost, no paper cost, no transportation cost. Retail distributors and authors can receive equal profit. The only loser is the printer and the bookstore. We save trees, we save fuel, we receive our purchases in 'real time', and eBooks are less likely to be 'loaned' out from libraries or from friends.

Prior to buying a reader, I was one of several friends who monitored book lists and agreed to split up purchases and then share the books. Three of us rotated, thus lowering our effective cost to 1/3 of the list price. I now spend more on eBooks than I did on pBooks because I can read them faster, and because I cannot easily and legally share them.
